The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign Department of Theatre seeks a full-time, tenure track, Assistant Professor of Acting with a proposed start date of August 16, 2018. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Completion of a terminal degree is required at the time of appointment. We seek candidates with a demonstrated ability to teach MFA/BFA acting, including on-camera acting. Successful candidates should also have experience with new work development. Duties include a teaching load of generally 2 classes/semester as well as committee work, advising, and (as appropriate) directing or coaching in support of the departmental curriculum and mission. Applicants should demonstrate a record of professional acting, directing or creative activity.
The Department of Theatre’s mission is to model radical inclusion in our classes and productions as well as our faculty, staff, and students. We are invested in adapting and translating classic texts for contemporary audiences as well as creating new artistic work. We prepare students for professions in the theatre and related fields by fostering a deep understanding of traditional approaches paired with rigorous training in emerging professional practices.
