The Creative Director will lead a cross functional team of designers, presentation specialists and videographers in the strategic development of messaging, brand stories and creative deliverables. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Creative Director will be responsible for defining the creative and storytelling vision for the communications team, working closely with internal teams and external BCBS Plan partners on content development. The Creative Director will manage team priorities, establish schedules and manage projects to ensure goals and deadlines are met. The Creative Director will have a holistic understanding of the entire creative process in order to identify great copy and design. This role will also work closely with the brand team to ensure visuals, messages and interactive elements of a project meet brand standards and are properly aligned to the creative brief. Some hands-on design work will be required at times.

  • Lead team with a strategic focus on developing creative content that advances the brand voice and visual expression
  • Manage team priorities, mentor and motivate staff and establish strong relationships with internal and external partners
  • Partner with internal teams to ensure business presentations, creative projects and campaigns meet brand standards and business priorities
  • Represent BCBSA and serve as SME on visual and storytelling trends when partnering with or presenting to external agencies, industry experts, and other key stakeholders


  • Bachelors Degree


  • A minimum of 8 years creative experience with a focus on managing teams
  • Design Experience
  • Experience conceptualizing and developing both visual and written creative content strategies and presenting concepts to key stakeholders
  • Experience leading teams in a complex environment with shifting priorities. Experience mentoring and motivating staff.
  • Experience interacting with multiple levels of business stakeholders to understand and interpret business requirements for the creation of communication collaterals
  • Agency experience. A strong portfolio of creative work that demonstrates individual's design and creative thinking


  • Proven skills in leading creative projects from concept to completion in a complex environment
  • Strong project management skills with dedicated commitment to meeting project deliverables
  • Familiarity with health care industry and concepts
  • Effective priority and time management skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, Microsoft Office
  • Design experience
