Job Description Summary

The Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging (DEIB) is responsible for partnering closely with the Executive Director, DEIB to fulfill her commitments and execute significant strategic, operational, and cultural change agendas. This is both a strategic and hands-on position that demands a combination of focus, flexibility, teamwork and independence, and active leadership. This role will ensure the continued development and execution of BCBSA'S DEIB strategy and deliver on the DEIB initiative at the ground level ensuring that DEIB is embedded throughout our business processes and practices. Manage experiences, events and other programming that inspire employees to shape an inclusive climate and shared identity as a key strategic business initiative; Drive program objectives through program and project management at all execution levels from strategic execution, content development to follow-up and communication; Manage implementation activities, and develop processes, documentation and communications for program/process rollout and ongoing support; Manage and collaborate with ERGs to create and develop engaging programming and enable their success• Partner with internal stakeholders and divisions to advocate and promote DEIB initiatives, providing coaching and guidance with a positive impact; communicate new/updated programs, policies, and processes to leaders, employees, stakeholder partners, and cross functional organizations.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Strategic leadership and accountability for the advancement of BCBSA's Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging strategy, including: a) Partners with ED, DEIB and internal stakeholders to shape and realize a sustainable shift in our culture that fully incorporates the DEIB into our DNA; b) Drive implementation of DEIB Action Plan; c) Establish long-range strategies and practices for the organization to meet specific business objectives through the participation and integration of the ERG framework; d) identify external partners to strengthen the BCBSA brand and optimize the impact of the ERGs while overseeing, expanding and measuring the ROI of external partnerships ; and e) completion of critical items, as needed.
  • Operationalize DEIB: Enable DEIB to meet agreed upon commitments and deadlines and lead various cross-functional DEIB projects and programs that drive desired business outcomes including engagement, metric improvement, influencing leaders, relationship building and collaboration. Create an efficient operational framework by a) Partnering with the HRBP to support division leaders and ensure that equity is seamlessly integrated in all areas of the business; b) determining priorities based on what is most important to the organization's success; c) managing multiple initiatives simultaneously, and driving work to completion; d) Leveraging insights in decision-making; e) demonstrating a bias to execution/action; and f) functioning as a strong change advocate and change management leader.
  • Special Projects: Support the DEIB team on various special projects (ie. Community Impact Day, Industry Benchmark Indexes, ERG activities and Blue Alliance).

Required Education, Certifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree
  • A minimum of 7 years related business or DEIB experience.
  • 10 years of experience creating and adhering to organizational and management processes.
  • Proven track record of success and progressive experience leading and managing DEIB initiatives/projects in a matrix organization.
  • Service-oriented: endeavor to meet or exceed the needs, wants, and expectations of stakeholders and the organization, while enhancing their capabilities.
  • Experience working with senior management and demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning.
  • Experience developing and implementing strategies for achieving business objectives, organizing multiple priorities, and effective leadership of cross functional teams.
