The Executive Communications Manager is responsible for the creation and execution of a diverse portfolio of communications deliverables for the BCBSA CEO and other senior leaders for external, internal and BCBSA Plan audiences, working closely with key stakeholders across BCBSA's communications team. The manager brings excellent reporting and writing techniques to create compelling, relevant and timely content for a variety of communications, including speeches and presentations, op-eds, blog posts, email messages, video scripts, newsletters and website content. This position collaborates across the Association to align on messaging and elevate the voice and brand of the Blues.


Researching and writing a variety of deliverables in the voice of CEO and senior executives, including speeches, presentations, blog posts, talking points and video scripts for internal and external audiences, public-facing op-eds and thought leadership pieces, Plan facing reports and messages, BCBSA Board communications, and correspondence and internal messages from CEO, bringing impactful messaging about the BCBS System and BCBSA to all

Collaborating with communications team members, subject matter experts across the Association and creative design/storytelling team members to craft channel- and audienceappropriate messaging and engaging complimentary visuals and ensure alignment of messages andWorking closely with BCBSA CEO and senior leaders to originate, iterate, review and prep materials forMaintaining CEO communications calendar in collaboration with campaign strategy team

Supporting the writing, editing and proofreading of additional strategic communications deliverables as needed


Required basic qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in Journalism, communications,social science, public relations or related field.
  • Required 5 Years experience of communications/speechwriter experience in a corporate or non-profit setting, including work directly with CEO and/or senior leaders
  • Required 5 Years • Demonstrated ability to identify, research, write, produce and coordinate clear, vivid text for speeches, op-eds, talking points, presentations, essays, articles, video scripts, website copy, correspondence and other projects for CEO and/or senior executives
  • Required 5 Years experience competence in crafting a script that is personally and professionally representative of the speaker and tailored to the specific audience Required 5 Years experience in successfully generating creative concepts for visual/multimedia deliverables
  • Required 5 Years exceptional knowledge of AP style and grammar
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills including excellent writing, proofreading and editing abilities and command of grammar/punctuation, style and formatDemonstrated skill in strategy, planning and execution of organizational narrative
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to develop and sustain relationships at all levels of the organization, with a consistent focus on meeting the expectations of internal customers/clientsIssue management skills; ability to grasp complex issues and translate them into easily understood conceptsAssessment learning skills; ability to learn quickly and expand knowledge and understanding of health insurance/BCBS business
  • Continuous improvement mindset; ability to take feedback, listen and incorporate insights into future iterations and projects

Prefered basic qualifications Masters Degree in a related field

  • Preferred 2 Years • Business strategy and/or healthcare experience
  • Preferred 2 Years • Journalism/media experience
  • Preferred 2 Years • Strong project management skills, process and organizational focus, and attention to detail
