Job Description Summary

Synergie Medication Collective is a new medication contracting organization founded by a group of Blue Cross and Blue Shield affiliated companies to serve both Blues and select independent health plans. Synergie is focused on improving affordability and access to costly medical benefit drugs - ones that are injected or infused by a health care professional in a clinical setting - for nearly 100 million Americans.

The Lead Trade Negotiator of Synergie Medication Collective, in collaboration with the Chief Trade Relations Officer, will negotiate contracts and maintain relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturer for the GPO. The Lead Trade Negotiator will have significant experience in negotiating contracts and relationship management with pharmaceutical manufacturers. The leader will work to leverage the assets that currently exist within the Blue System and through the leadership and management of a larger organization to maximize scale in support of driving better costs for members. This position will report to the Chief Executive Officer and will be a critical member of the executive leadership team. This initiative is nothing less than transformative, with the goals of positioning the BCBS health plans to deliver on the quadruple aim in health care (service, access, quality, and affordability).   • Lead negotiations with pharmaceutical manufacturers to develop innovative, market-leading value-based arrangements (VBAs), as well as traditional cost of goods reduction arrangements in the form of medical rebates
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers
  • Collaborate to develop and execute innovative approaches to value- and volume-based pharmaceutical contracting in the medical benefit space, both near- and long-term

Required Education, Certifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, or a related healthcare discipline, or equivalent experience
  • Over 10 years of experience and demonstrated results in leading negotiations and contractingwith pharmaceutical manufacturer for rebates and value-based care arrangement activities
  • Over 10 years of experience with GPOs, PBMs, and health plans related to pharmaceutical supply chain contracts
  • Over 10 years of experience and demonstrated results in building successful relationships with pharmaceutical manufacturers
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the capabilities to negotiate, persuade, and make effective presentations to varying audiences internal and external
  • Confidence, integrity, can-do attitude, and critical thinking skills are required, as well as successful experience and executive presence for interacting with and influencing key leadership and decision-makers within the BCBS system, as well as with external stakeholders
  • Excellent interpersonal skills for building and fostering key relationships
  • Strategic mindset for planning and visioning
  • Ability to establish credibility and be decisive and results oriented while balancing varying business considerations/priorities is critical, as well as is the ability to demonstrate good judgment and critical thinking relative to problem analysis/resolution at both the strategic and functional levels
  • Must have demonstrated leadership skills of achieving results through others
  • Deep knowledge of the pharmaceutical supply chain, purchasing dynamics, and relative landscape of healthcare competitors to BCBS
