The Role

GovExec is seeking an experienced network engineer who’s eager to use and grow their technological skills on a nationwide network. In this role, the successful individual will protect our critical information, systems, and assets, build and maintain a wide distributed LAN, implement new software and hardware, and assist in the development of an overall IT strategy. From early on you’ll be given challenging assignments, lead initiatives, and take ownership and responsibility.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain essential IT operations including policies, operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, software, and hardware.
  • Perform network administration tasks including the configuration of routers, firewalls, Point-to-point and client VPN systems, network switches and wireless access points.
  • Perform server administration tasks, including user/group administration, security permissions, group policies, print services, research event log warnings and errors, and resource monitoring.
  • Develop datacenter health monitoring systems and respond to systems issues as they arise.
  • Own projects, solutions, and key responsibilities within the internal IT group.
  • Partner with internal and external partners to communicate project status, activities, and achievements.
  • Handle business-critical IT tasks and systems.
  • Interact with the help desk and other teams to assist in troubleshooting, identify root cause, and provide escalated technical support when needed.
  • Perform routine/scheduled maintenance of IT systems.
  • Be a leader in promoting a good culture within the IT and Operations teams.

Qualifications

  • Proven work experience in the architecture and maintenance of large scale, distributed IT networks.
  • Experience with or knowledge of programming languages; Python preferred.
  • Experience with Windows, MacOS and Linux operating systems.
  • Experience developing enterprise backup systems.
  • Experience with configuration of system performance and monitoring tools.
  • Experience with Microsoft Active directory and Azure Active Directory.
  • Experience with Hyper-V Virtualization.
  • Experience with HTTP traffic, content delivery, and caching.
  • Experience in project management, application design and integration.
  • Experience with cloud computing (specifically Microsoft Azure and Amazon AWS).
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity and information security best practices.

The compensation range for this role is $90,000 to $110,000 per year.
