This is a full-time position scheduled to work 36 hours a week 72 hours biweekly from 9:00am-4:00pm in our Seating and Positioning Center at Marianjoy in Wheaton.

Assumes responsibility and accountability for all patients and provides comprehensive evaluations and assessments for wheelchair seating and positioning needs in accordance with established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, maintaining the highest degree of quality patient care. Offers a range of assistive technology services which may include assessment, evaluation, trial, simulation, recommendations, fitting, training, and adjustments and/or modifications for optimal positioning and engagement in their environment when possible. Based on patient's cognitive, physical, age and functional limitations, utilizes safe & appropriate guarding techniques and assistive/adaptive devices. Administers and adapts the content of patient evaluations according to the RESNA Standards of Practice for Assistive Technology Professionals. Interprets evaluation results to identify patient impairments and functional limitations. Establishes functional, objective and measurable goals in accordance with the patient goals. Assumes responsibility and is accountable for the care of those patients being treated by physical therapist assistants and students. Reevaluates the patient as appropriate and modifies the equipment recommendations accordingly. Maintains productivity level of direct patient care, as outlined by Marianjoy policy. Maintains treatment area, equipment and supply inventory. Schedules and prioritizes workload. Communicates effectively, both verbally and non-verbally, with patients and caregivers at levels appropriate to their age, cognitive status and language abilities and informs them of necessary information related to diagnosis, functional level and potential outcomes. Interacts and practices in collaboration with a variety of professionals. Informs the patient/caregiver about all device options when developing wheelchair recommendations, including financial implications. Documents the technology evaluation, assessment, recommendations, services, or products recommended. Documents, on an ongoing basis, services provided, responses to services, and changes in status relative to the plan of care. Completes and submits all necessary paperwork to support timely processing of equipment recommendations. Instructs patients and family regarding equipment use. Supervises, mentors and provides education/instruction to facilitate professional growth of other healthcare team providers. Educates and provides consultation to consumers and the public regarding seating and positioning, as well as prevention and wellness services, including screenings. Assists in performance improvement and supports development activities. Contributes to cost effectiveness of services and programs provided by the department. Communicates suggestions related to opportunities for improvement and maintaining positive relations with all customers. Identifies personal professional strengths and weaknesses and assumes responsibility for professional growth. Participates in internal and external continuing education opportunities and shares learning with Marianjoy staff. Participates in ongoing professional development, both internal and external continuing education opportunities, to remain current on assistive technology relevant to practice including accessibility, funding, legal or public issues, recommended practices and emerging technologies. Flexible with schedule to meet the needs of the patient and the department. Complies with and adjusts to policy and procedure changes within the program/site and Marianjoy. Maintains knowledge of Marianjoy and partners' policies and procedures concerning precautions, codes, conditions, warnings, and general safety. Delivers services consistent with the established Marianjoy Mission and Philosophy. Maintains patient confidentiality and respects the rights and dignity of all individuals. Complies with current APTA Code of Ethics, and state licensure laws. AA/EOE.
Required: Masters Degree: Degree from a school of an Physical Therapy Program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
Applicable assessment and treatment knowledge of preferred practice patterns related to various patient populations.
Understanding of state, federal, and professional practice laws, regulations, and licensing requirements.
Basic proficiency with a computer keyboard is required. Above average written and verbal communication skills.
Flexibility and ability to manage work in a changing environment.
Maintenance of a license to practice Physical Therapy in the state of Illinois (or licensure application on file with the State Department of Processional Regulation).
Maintains current CPR certification.
Preferred: Two to three years of previous work experience delivering physical therapy services in a program and environment similar to Marianjoy's.
