Senior Tax Analyst Corporate Finance

Responsible for the extraction, interpretation, analysis, reporting and maintenance of the the federal income, federal excise, and state and local personal property, sales and use, and income tax compliance matters (i.e., all applicable direct and indirect taxes) for the BCBSA and other supported affiliates. This entails the following activities: (1) serving as a liaison between the Finance Department, business units, advisors, vendors and tax jurisdictions on all applicable tax matters; (2) corresponding with taxing authorities regarding all relevant tax issues; (3) providing accounting support in other areas including, but not limited to, the audit of the BCBSA's annual financial statements; (4) maintaining personal contact with all assigned internal or external customers at every level, including senior management; and (5) performing ongoing research and determining the appropriate resolution to a variety of BCBSA tax issues. Attention to detail and the careful monitoring of all compliance due dates are of critical importance in this job.


Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Tax Compliance Lead - Research, analyze, prepare and present information relating to tax laws and legislation effecting BCBSA and certain affiliated organizations. Perform risk analysis in specific areas of taxation. Recommend internal process changes to ensure compliance with new tax requirements.Maintains a status report schedule or roadmap and updates internal tax permanent files. Ensure timely filing and tax/fee payments for certain tax returns and other governmental and/or regulatory required reports. Serve as a contact for the BCBSA with outside advisors on all compliance co-sourcing engagements. Directly contact tax jurisdiction representatives in order to respond and develop resolutions to reporting issues for BCBSA and certain affiliated organizations. Partner with other finance areas and business units to develop strategies for responding to specific tax issues, concerns or questions presented by external parties. Assist BCBSA tax leadership in maintaining documentation related to BCBSA's tax exempt position.• Audit Support - Serve as an official contact and entry point for audit engagements. Coordinate and lead interim audit meetings involving tax. Monitor adherence to timelines. Collect and provide audit test documentation. Provide audit deliverables as directed by the audit manager. Required Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree Degree in accounting, finance or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • 4-6 years of direct tax experience

Preferred Basic Qualifications:

  • CPA Certification or Graduate degree in taxation
  • Degree in accounting, finance or related discipline or equivalent experience
  • CPA Certification or Graduate degree in taxation
  • 4-6 years of direct tax experience
  • Extensive experience in systematic financial record keeping, as well as working with financial statements
  • Experience in leading small project teams
  • Knowledge of GAAP (familiarity with NAIC statutory accounting practices and procedures a plus) and current industry best accounting practices
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to identify problems or issues regarding financial information, provide recommendations for resolution and elevate them appropriately
  • Experience in using web based applications (preferably PeopleSoft) or the ability to quickly learn to effectively use PeopleSoft software.
  • Exposure/orientation to partnership tax reporting a plus
