Job Summary and Primary Responsibilities
Responsible for overseeing the design and development of test fixtures to ensure the quality of electro-mechanical systems and Printed Circuit Boards within the manufacturing/distribution environment. Responsibilities include coordinating with the design team to determine test parameters, producing test documentation, troubleshooting, and performing quality assurance procedures. Success in this role requires experience with PCB design, layout, manufacturing processes, manufacturing test systems, cable design, and debugging/troubleshooting. Cross-functional collaboration is critical to ensure design updates are producible with high yields and predictable production times.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate tools, fixtures, and scripts for automated and manual testing of medical device equipment.
  • Implement and qualify programming fixtures with process controls and documentation.
  • Implement new software configurations under software release and configuration management procedures.
  • Work closely with design teams to provide DFX feedback in prototype designs and establish test limits based on design specifications.
  • Draft, collaborate and release procedures for PCB level and systems-level acceptance testing.
  • Support Process FMEA analysis.
  • Troubleshoot and determine the root cause of electromechanical system and PCBA failures.
  • Develop reporting mechanisms to communicate Pareto and failure analysis data to cross-disciplined teams.
  • Support operations teams by addressing test issues affecting the supply chain.
  • Coordinates with suppliers, procurement, and design transfer teams to manage the production process.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills / Capabilities

  • Proven ability to identify priorities in operations, communicate issues effectively and develop plans for corrective action.
  • Strong background in analog and digital electronics with the ability to read and understand schematics.
  • Understands test methods and processes required to ensure the quality of devices accepted for release.
  • Use of oscilloscopes, multi-meters, signal generators, and power supplies.
  • Troubleshooting PCBAs to component level.
  • Understanding of Windows-based and/or embedded systems.
  • Basic soldering for cabling and board-level components.
  • Experience in programming test scripts preferred.
  • Experience with medical device manufacturing preferred.
  • Good communication and collaboration skills.
  • Mentors junior engineers and technicians.

Education and Experience

  • Typically requires a minimum of 6 years of related experience with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics Technology; or four years and a Master's degree
  • Experience in the medical device industry, with complex electrical design (spine or orthopedics) and/or emerging technologies preferred

  • Up to 10%
