Project Kuiper is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband internet connectivity to unserved and under-served communities around the world. In this role, you will be bringing that vision to life by architecting, developing and testing the communication systems payload software that provides the radio link connectivity between the satellites to customer-terminals and the ground-based internet gateways.
You will own design/development/integration/test and deployment of the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer embedded software of the Kuiper Communication System, which runs on the satellites and on the ground systems (customer terminals and ground gateways). The MAC layer implements the Kuiper air-interface specification and controls our proprietary modems chipsets and inter-working with the radio transceivers and antenna systems. You will work with industry's best communication systems engineering experts as well as the ASIC and hardware engineers deliver this critical MAC software layer.
Key job responsibilities
- Own design, development, integration and testing of the Kuiper Payload MAC layer software, managing a team of embedded software engineers.
* Develop a strategic plan for the growth of the team, both from a software and integrated mission outcomes perspective.
* Hire & Develop a diverse team of software engineers.
* Aid in the design of mission critical systems in Project Kuiper.
* Collaborate with your fellow team members to integrate various system elements, both hardware and software.
Export Control Requirement:
Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
A day in the life
This is a Software Development Manager role in the Kuiper Payload Software organization, responsible for driving the research & development, deployment and operation of Kuiper Payload. Our software drives the hardware, firmware and networking on the satellite to manage all radio communications between satellites and the ground gateways and customer terminals, and also provides device drivers and services for managing redundancy, operational and thermal state of the payload. You will own the roadmap and mission for software and work with your customers to refine requirements, understand constraints, hire & grow your team and iteratively deliver value to our customers.
