Are you passionate about creating digital experiments that validate innovative automation technologies? Do you excel at using simulation tools to optimize mechanical designs and processes before they're built? Does collaborating with hardware development engineers to revolutionize logistics automation excite you? The Worldwide Innovation and Design team is seeking a Simulation Engineer to lead discrete-event simulations for our Last Mile (AMZL) network technologies. We offer the opportunity to shape the future of automation through digital experimentation while working with world-class engineering teams.
Come join us as we revolutionize logistics automation around the world!
Key job responsibilities
As a Simulation Engineer at Amazon, you will lead the creation of complex discrete-event simulations that validate new technologies early in their development cycle - focussing on process simulations to understand throughput requirements, bottlenecks and operator machine interactions. You will utilize your expertise in simulation software (FlexSim, Emulate 3D) and programming to create digital experiments that optimize processes and influence mechanical designs whether it be robotics, AGV's, conveyors or storage systems. You will have ownership of strategic modeling projects, establish best practices, and influence design decisions through data-driven insights. Your work will directly impact the success of revolutionary automation technologies in our logistics network.
Note: there is a preference in this role for Flexsim experience, we will consider candidates without this skill if relevant process and system
A day in the life
As a Simulation Engineer, your day begins collaborating with Hardware Development Engineers to understand a new automation system's requirements. You'll design simulation experiments using tools like FlexSim or Emulate3D to test critical aspects of the technology: Do we want to validate operational metrics or maybe confirm physical reactions of parcels moving through our tech. Throughout the day, you'll program model parameters, run scenarios, and analyze results to validate design decisions. You'll meet with cross-functional teams to present findings and recommend optimizations. Your afternoon might involve mentoring junior engineers on simulation best practices or coordinating with vendors on complex multi-system simulations. Each day brings new challenges in digitally validating tomorrow's logistics solutions.
About the team
You will join the System Integration & Performance team within Innovation & Design Engineering, working alongside experts in Data Analytics, Physical Validation, and Integration. Together, these pillars provide essential tools for Hardware Developers to make informed design decisions. Innovation & Design's mission is to discover, test, and enhance new mechatronics technologies (Robots, Conveyors, Sorters) that transform Amazon's last mile logistics operations.
