Unix Administrators are responsible for planning, designing and managing servers. Those duties include but are not limited to: Administer and maintain UNIX based systems; improve existing systems; troubleshoot and resolve system problems; and create, implement, and maintain system security. Procure and communicate information about system specifications, requirements, and limitations. Install, configure, repair, and maintain UNIX based systems. Provide technical support to end users. Provide technical support to management. Provide technical support to other global peers. Develop and maintain system documentation. Manage service provider team. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: Monitor and maintain corporate servers, including equipment, operating systems, software, and support applications, including security and disaster recovery plans. Creating and maintaining UNIX user accounts and access management systems. Ensure server systems are up to date and backed up so that information is protected, and system uptime is maximized. Work with backup and restore teams to ensure data backups and system refreshes are performed on time and accurately. Maintain system security by implementing and enforcing security policies, regulations, and standards. Applying patches and upgrades when necessary. Troubleshoot network, server, and database problems and provide support to other technical teams to resolve them. Work with Global Unix team and Service providers to support all aspects of a large Linux environment. Making recommendations for upgrades to hardware and software based on existing operations, pending needs and available budget. Work Experience: Typically 8+ years with bachelor's or equivalent. Education and Certification(s): Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience from which comparable knowledge and job skills can be obtained.
