The Opportunity
This position works out of our Alameda, CA location in the Diabetes Care Division where we are focused on helping people with diabetes manage their health with life-changing products that provide accurate data to drive better-informed decisions. We’re revolutionizing the way people monitor their glucose levels with our new sensing technology.
As the Staff Specialist EHS you will be responsible for conducting the environmental, health and safety performance and identifying risks or areas for improvement as well as investigating environmental or safety incidents.
What You’ll Work On
Keep informed on current environmental, health and safety regulations and legislation and recommend policy changes. Learn Abbott Global Technical Standards.
Support EHS management in the gathering of data for the establishment of report metrics pertinent to EHS activities.
Assist in the implementation of assigned Technical Standards
Support EHS and lab teams in the management of all hazardous material and hazardous waste activities including the collection, transportation and disposal of all hazardous waste in compliance with all applicable regulations.
Conduct office and lab ergonomic assessments and ergonomic lab sessions. Support with maintaining incident tracking sheet and post-ergonomic assessment follow-up.
Review new hazardous materials and check incoming material for safety data sheets (SDSs), unique usage and storage characteristics. Work with end user to ensure proper usage and disposal. Review and maintain chemical inventory and SDS management system.
Support EHS/OH team in conducting Emergency Response Team (ERT) training.
Assist in gathering information about dangerous goods shipped from site for the annual Dangerous Goods Report
Assist with conducting machine guarding assessments.
Assist with developing equipment-specific lockout/tagout procedures
Assist with accident/incident investigation and corrective actions.
