Job Description
The Lead Transporter reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
The Lead Transporter is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of our patients and visitors to and from inpatient and outpatient areas. This position is responsible for providing real-time leadership to transporters when needed. This is in the form of: Assistance with nursing when Supervisors/Manager is not available.
Internals and rehires are not eligible for the $500.00 Sign-On Bonus
This position is 32 hours per week.
Must be able to work Mid shift and weekends as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Patient lift assistance.
- Coaching of correct departmental procedures.
- Orientation, training and mentoring.
- Transports patients and visitors safely while using appropriate equipment, lift techniques and departmental safety measures.
- Adheres to all PPE procedures and follows established infection control and isolation guidelines.
- Effectively communicates necessary patient information to Nursing departments and all testing departments.
- Has knowledge of the Fall Prevention policies within the hospital and has understanding of when assistance for patient transfers or moves is required.
- Completes patient transports within set standards of the department.
- Has knowledge of centralized equipment and the procedures in picking up dirty equipment, cleaning the equipment per set standards and delivering equipment to requester.
- Has knowledge of how to correctly utilize iPods for assignments.
- Has clear understanding of information being sent through the THM system.
- Performs accurate and timely documentation of patient movement when leaving and returning patients to their destination.
- Has knowledge of how to correctly disconnect oxygen, position nasal canula and set portable oxygen tanks to set levels.
- Provides orientation, training and competency sign-off to all new Patient Transporters.
- Assists in overseeing daily huddles and in-services.
- Assists with implementing and supporting policies, standards and programs in the Patient Transport Department.
- Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities.
- Is an active Transfer Mobility Coach.
- Attends quarterly meetings and brings information back to team.
- Directs and provides feedback or guidance in the absence of the Supervisors/Manager.
- Performs exceptional customer service skills with patients, guests and staff.
- Uses proper scripting when communicating with our patients and visitors.
- Extremely resourceful, able to think outside of the box in appropriate settings and has a highly developed problem solving ability.
