The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Center for Quantum Computing in Pasadena, CA, is seeking a motivated and experienced Facilities Engineer who will maintain mission-critical lab facilities for a growing research and development effort. By owning the optimization and maintenance of lab facilities infrastructure, you will help enable a team of scientists and engineers to develop future quantum technologies. Operations knowledge of cleanrooms or engineering/physics laboratories is a plus, but not required. You will work with multiple teams to make sure operational processes and requests meet the needs of the business. Successful candidates have meticulous attention to detail, excellent troubleshooting skills, and adaptability to changing requirements.
Our lab facilities infrastructure includes high-voltage power systems, power distribution, process cooling water loops, mechanical systems, compressed and cryogenic gases, etc. You will coordinate with multiple stakeholders including leadership, contractors, consultants, and engineers to ensure that our facilities meet the needs of the quantum computing program. Your ability to work independently with limited direction, communicate effectively with team members across geographic locations, and provide technical direction will be key to your success.

Key job responsibilities
* Maintain and execute a maintenance program for all facilities equipment, including maintenance that must occur outside of normal business hours.
* Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis of facilities equipment failures
* On-site management of contractors, sub-contractors and vendors, ensuring that all work performed is in accordance with established practices, procedures & local legislation.
* Collaborate, plan, and coordinate with internal teams and external stakeholders to execute projects and changes
* On-call duties after normal working hours, rotating on a weekly basis.
* Role supports multiple locations within the Los Angeles region and requires commuting between sites.
A day in the life
In this role, you will monitor the facilities to ensure equipment is running optimally. You will investigate and troubleshoot any equipment abnormalities to return the equipment to normal operating parameters. You will develop operating and preventive maintenance procedures for installed equipment and either perform or manage contractors executing your procedures. You will track all facilities assets in a local database, develop critical spare parts lists to maintain equipment’s high-availability, and work with vendors and internal teams to procure parts.
