Job Description
The Sr. Radiographer-MRIreflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Performs magnetic resonance imaging procedures to generate information necessary for the diagnosis and subsequent treatment of inpatients and/or outpatients. Services are provided in accordance with industry standards, department protocols, and hospital policies and procedures. Assumes responsibility of Resource Coordinator as necessary in the absence of Resource Coordinator
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate the request for radiographic service and assesses the patient to determine the appropriate procedure protocol and method of application.
- Flexes schedule of personnel as necessary, with respect to exam complexity and patient volume.
- Refers to written MR imaging protocols and/or a radiologist to coordinate selection of appropriate scan parameters, including pulse sequences.
- Appropriately employs imaging systems, accessory devices, and patient positioning techniques to generate magnetic resonance images.
- Cares for the patient throughout the procedure according to department and hospital standards of nursing care, age-specific sensitivities, and “patients' first” guidelines. Participate in lifting and transporting patients to and from imaging devices.
- Reviews and evaluates the resultant images for comparison with section and industry standards; takes corrective action as needed to achieve and maintain standards.
- Provide patient education in the form of written material and/or verbal explanation prior to, during, and subsequent to the procedure. This is done in order to inform the patient and subsequently reduce his/her anxiety, and increase his/her comfort and tolerance for the procedure.
- Perform imaging procedures in accordance with the principles of safe practice and ethical conduct.
- Documents imaging procedures manually and /or electronically to ensure correct charging, and patient and film file tracking.
- Monitors stock of supplies in imaging rooms to assure their regular availability by timely reordering, rotation of dated items, and by maintenance of a clean and orderly environment.
- Report incidences of equipment failure, irregularities in equipment performance, and equipment in disrepair to supervisory and/or quality control personnel as soon a possible
Qualifications
Required:
- Graduation from an accredited radiography program with competencies in evaluating and caring for geriatric, pediatric, and adolescent patients
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)(R)
- ARRT (MR) Certification
- CPR Basic Life Support (BLS) through American Heart Association (AHA)
Preferred:
- State of Illinois Emergency Management (IEMA) license
- Maintains competencies and complies with continuing education requirements of credentialing agencies
