The Senior (Sr.) Engine Fleet Manager position is a part of the Fleet, Aviation Sourcing and Technical (FAST) Powerplant (PP) team which is responsible for technical oversight and management of AIR's fleet of aircraft. The Sr. Powerplant Engineer is the single-thread owner responsible for setting technical direction for engine and Auxiliary Power Unit (APU) operations, troubleshooting, and maintenance across all Amazon Air carriers. The Sr. Engine Fleet Manager drives technical improvements for engines to exceed the reliability goals for Amazon Air and deep dives technical barriers impacting performance goals. This role leverages deep technical and industry expertise in the areas of Aircraft Engine Systems, Engine Workscoping, Engine Performance and removal drivers, Engine and Component design, Life Limited Parts (LLP), component inspection and repairs, and off-wing and on-wing troubleshooting to meet and exceed AIR's fleet availability goals.
The Sr. Engine Fleet Manager responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supporting the execution of aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) technical requirements for Amazon Air’s global fleet, conducting scrap review, and coordinating repair development efforts with engine and APU manufacturers. The Sr. Engine Fleet Manager will also support technical review of new additions to the fleets. The Sr. Engine Fleet Manager will apply deep technical understanding of engines and APU’s to develop maintenance strategies that reduce cost, improve reliability and deliver on customer promise of lowest delivery costs. The Sr. Engine Fleet Manager will be the FAST PP subject matter expert supporting engine troubleshooting for their assigned fleets.
Key job responsibilities
- Responsible for overall engine maintenance initiatives (ADs, SBs, SILs and fleet campaigns), utilizing technical knowledge/experience in the best interest of the fleet, and managed the full life cycle of the fleet
- Influence maintenance providers with tactical and strategic initiatives to improve fleet level reliability performance and troubleshooting complex aircraft maintenance defects to ensure aircraft availability, increased Time on wing (TOW), and reduce unplanned engine removals (UER)
- Leverage deep subject matter expertise in engine systems, design, and maintenance to develop and implement technical roadmaps for improved fleet reliability
- Focus on strategic operational decisions to drive increased technical fleet reliability, consistently weighing business decisions against technical and operational requirements
- Drive engine build reliability by using reliability program data and indexing to drive continuous improvements in MRO processes and workscoping content
- Effectively manage “in-service” carrier relationships – liaison with carriers to optimize in-service technical performance of the product
- Develop, manage, and deliver engine/APU performance metrics, organize/chair technical reviews
- Maintain technical product line proficiency through continuous education
- Accountable for being a subject matter expert for assigned engine/APU fleets
- Travel domestically up to 10% - 20% annually
