Title: Corporate Counsel – Content Legal
Location: 1 Washington Street, Newark, NJ 07102
Duties: Provide legal support on the acquisition, development, and production of audio content. Job duties include structure, draft, and negotiate agreements for a wide variety of content distributed on Audible including podcasts, originals, and audiobooks, such as production service agreements, development agreements, license agreements, talent agreements, participant agreements, vendor agreements, location agreements, materials releases, music licenses, ancillary rights agreements, etc. Provide analysis and advice on copyright, trademark, chain of title, defamation, rights of publicity and privacy, and music rights issues. Provide strategic advice to cross-department stakeholders including creative, business affairs, production, marketing, PR, and finance. Assist with the development of forms, processes, and policies. Train junior attorneys and legal professionals in supporting various Audible stakeholders throughout the content acquisition, production, and distribution lifecycle.
Requirements: Requires a Juris Doctor (JD) or Master of Law (LLM) degree plus five (5) years of experience as an Attorney in media, intellectual property, or entertainment industry. Experience may be gained concurrently and must include:
Five (5) years in each of the following:
- Counseling on legal compliance issues or intellectual property matters
- Drafting and negotiating contracts
- Developing legal forms, processes, and policies.
One (1) year in each of the following:
- Pre-publication review of content to identify and analyze risk associated with First Amendment, defamation, or other potential third-party claims
- Conducting risk assessments of rights acquisition deals or production legal matters to analyze risks associated with copyright and trademark infringement, right of publicity and defamation claims, health and safety claims, or other potential claims that may arise in connection with a grant of rights or production
- Creative problem solving to address business and legal risks that may arise in connection with the acquisition, development, production, or distribution of original content
- Working on content acquisition, production, or distribution lifecycles.
Qualified applicants must have membership in good standing of at least one U.S. state bar.
Salary: $212,850 /year. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
