THE OPPOURTUNITY
We have an exciting opportunity for an Innovative Research Associate – Chemistry/Biochemistry within our Abbott Rapid Diagnostics business located at San Diego, CA. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Oligonucleotide Research Associate to join our dynamic research and development team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the synthesis, purification and characterization of oligonucleotide for diagnostic application and related fields.

WHAT YOULL DO
- Operate and maintain automated oligonucleotide synthesizers to produce DNA and RNA oligos of varying lengths and modifications.
- Purify synthesized oligonucleotides using reverse-phase or ion-exchange HPLC or cartridge-based methods, as appropriate
- Conduct quality control testing by utilizing analytical HPLC, UV spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry
- Accurately document synthesis protocols, yields, and quality control data in laboratory records.
- Manage inventory of raw materials, reagents, and consumables required for oligo production.
- Collaborate closely with assay development scientists to ensure timely delivery of high-quality oligos for research and development purposes.
- Execute biochemistry experiments under supervision
- Execute sample preparation protocols under supervision
- Adhere to laboratory safety protocols and maintain compliance with quality standards.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- Experience in oligonucleotide synthesis, cleavage and deprotection techniques.
- Minimum 2 years experience working in chemistry or biochemistry lab
- Skilled in developing and implementing analytical and biophysical methods for characterizing raw materials and final oligonucleotide products.
- Capable of performing routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instrumentation.
- Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with post-synthetic modification and conjugation of oligonucleotides using various fluorophores and ligands.
- Hands-on experience operating and maintaining automated oligonucleotide synthesizers; direct experience with Dr. Oligo and MerMade systems is a plus.
- Strong familiarity with solid-phase synthesis chemistry and common oligonucleotide modifications (e.g., fluorophores, quenchers, phosphorothioates).
- Proficient in oligonucleotide purification using techniques such as reverse-phase and ion-exchange HPLC.
- Experience with analytical techniques including UV-Vis spectrophotometry, HPLC, and LC-MS.
- Familiarity with various HPLC systems such as Agilent, Waters, and ÄKTA Pure is a plus.
- Solid understanding of solid-phase organic synthesis principles, particularly as applied to oligonucleotide chemistry.
- Experience with sample preparation techniques and basic biochemical techniques.
The base pay for this position is
$72,100.00 – $114,700.00
