Position: Police Social Work Intern
Location: Ben Gordon Center, Dekalb Police Department, Dekalb County Sheriffs Office, and Sycamore Police Department (Rotations)
Duration: Spring 2026-Summer 2026
Availability: 3 days per week, 8-4:30pm. There is a possibility of a late day (12:00pm-8:30pm; either Mondays or Thursdays) depending on the candidate's availability
Overview:
We are seeking motivated Master's level interns specializing in Social Work for an immersive internship experience within our Police Social Work program. This position is ideal for individuals who are in their Advanced Standing program or are completing their Final Internship. Interns will have the unique opportunity to work alongside police officers, fire department personnel, and EMS teams, contributing to community safety and well-being.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency services to assess and support individuals in crisis.
- Participate in case management, providing vital support and resources to affected individuals and families.
- Document interactions and interventions clearly and accurately to ensure compliance and best practices.
- Engage proactively with various stakeholders, including clients, community organizations, and first responders.
- Attend and contribute to team meetings, case reviews, and training sessions.
- Provide outreach and education regarding available resources and services.
Qualifications:
- Must be currently enrolled in a Master's level Social Work program (Advanced Standing or Final Internship).
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with a focus on clarity and professionalism.
- Demonstrated ability to engage effectively with diverse populations, including first responders and community members.
- Previous experience or coursework in crisis intervention, community resources, or related fields is preferred but not required.

Qualifications
Required:
- Actively enrolled in a master's program related to Social Work, either Advanced Standing or in the final year for their internship
Preferred:
- One year of experience interacting with clients in an outpatient setting
