The Transplant Nurse Education Coordinator is a Registered Professional Nurse who is accountable for formal and informal staff education, including general program orientation. Responsibilities:
- Integrates theoretical knowledge, best available evidence and clinical expertise in nursing practice into educational experiences.
- Serves as a role model for “Patients First” philosophy.
- Facilitates formal and informal education of the staff, which may include: nurses, Transplant Nurse Coordinators (TNC), Social Workers, Dieticians, and support staff.
- Coordinates and facilitates program specific orientation in conjunction with the NM Academy, peers, managers, medical faculty, and the Department of Professional Development.
- Develops and evaluates initial orientation and training programs to establish initial competencies.
- Develops, evaluates and facilitates annual competency assessment.
- Maintains standards of practice relevant to specific clinical setting.
- Collaborates with relevant manager on development plans for individual staff.
- Identifies needs of staff and develops education strategies in conjunction with manager.
- Integrates best available evidence into education programs.
- Maintains competency in each area of transplant program through providing direct patient care as needed as needed and through the role as clinical instructor during orientation of new team members.
Additional Functions
- Participates in unit/departmental/divisional or hospital committees/task forces.
- Remains clinically proficient within within transplantation and/or cellular therapy.
- Ensures that training represents age specific requirements for primary patient population served.
- Participates in direct patient care as a Transplant Nurse Coordinator (TNC).
- Develops education plans around practice changes to support quality, performance improvement and patient safety.
- Develops education plans and proposed practice changes to support the Nursing Quality and Patient Safety Committee as appropriate
- Uses established research critique guidelines when considering evidence to translate into practice.
- Assist with policy development and policy review, including recommending new clinical guidelines as appropriate.
Qualifications
Required:
- Current license as a Registered Nurse State of Illinois Professional Nurse or eligible in Illinois
- Certification in applicable specialty
- Coordination or related specialty (e.g. CNN)
- BSN with a minimum of four years related clinical experience
