This position is an onsite opportunity in the Abbott Diabetes Care Division. We are helping people with Diabetes lead healthier, happier lives. This role is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the organization's logistics operations, ensuring efficient and cost-effective movement, storage, and distribution through the management of international logistics, including ocean, air, and ground freight. This role involves strategic planning, coordination with internal and external stakeholders, and continuous improvement of logistics processes to meet customer demands, reduce cost, and support business objectives.
This is an onsite opportunity in Alameda, CA.
What You’ll Work On
• Lead cross-functional teams to facilitate ongoing improvements of logistics processes
• Builds models and analytical tools to anticipate the future and to recommend actions to meet future business challenges. Anticipates Future Directions: Forecasts market and technical trends to project the future environment and actively attempts to influence and control rather than respond to the environment.
• Deliver multiple improvement programs consistent with global commercial objectives and aligned with local country regulatory requirements by identifying process improvement initiatives (e.g., reducing lead times, lowering transportation costs, optimizing logistics routing), developing implementation plans, securing stakeholder buy-in, and leading cross-functional teams.
• Recognizes need for analysis, determines approach and methodology, performs complex analysis considering multiple factors, and proceeds to develop proposals. Implements Activities: executes and revises plans as needed to accomplish assigned individual tasks to meet expectations (cost, performance, quality, time). Implements plans, makes changes or improvements, and incorporates them into the organization's routine operations, ensuring no loose ends. Reviews open issues to enhance long-term success in the area's day-to-day operations.
• Negotiates transportation rates with suppliers. Maintains professional interface with management of all levels within the organization and external suppliers. Acts as a focal point for analysis, communications and presentations.
• Develop supply chain metrics and strategy by aligning supply chain goals with overall business strategy (e.g., cost reduction, customer satisfaction, sustainability), identifying key value drivers (e.g., speed, flexibility, reliability), and developing analytics tools to track metrics.
• Manage carriers, transportation costs within specified metrics, third-party transportation providers and freight bill presentation for ocean, air and ground freight.
• Responsible for maintaining alignment and obtaining best practices with other Abbott divisions and the logistics team
.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum 3-year proven track record in managing international distribution networks and suppliers' relationships for both ocean and air freight
- Experience with ERP systems and logistics software
- Effective communication and negotiation skills
- Demonstrated cross-functional team project leadership
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience collecting and interpreting logistics data, including air freight costs, shipping times, and carrier performance, to identify trends and improvement opportunities
- Proven ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives by defining, analyzing, and reporting on key performance indicators (KPIs), and presenting actionable recommendations to stakeholders
- Deep understanding of international air freight operations, including pricing, import/export procedures, customs, and air cargo handling
- Experience serving as a logistics liaison for cross-functional teams, translating forecast and inventory plans into execution strategies for fulfillment, transportation, and network efficiency
- Strong problem-solving skills with a demonstrated interest in learning and applying new methods and technologies to enhance logistics processes
