Description: The purpose of the GIS Technician is to edit and maintain the GIS database using ArcGIS software while utilizing established procedures and best practices of data entry to assure quality control and data integrity. GIS map creation, GPS collection, and GIS analysis will also be performed.
The pay range for this position is $28.85/hr to $43.27/hr. Compensation for the selected candidate will depend on candidate qualifications and experience as related to the position requirements.

- Compiles, attributes, converts, edits, and maintains data in geographic and operational databases and their associated documentation.
- Assists in establishing and maintaining GIS database quality control and quality assurance procedures.
- Upholds GIS system integrity, security, and confidentiality.
- Provides support of integration between GIS and other non-spatial applications such as SAP.
- Provides technical support on GIS applications and mapping assistance to the Engineering Division.
- Creates and modifies maps & drawings as requested in both GIS and AutoCAD software.
- Collects Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) points in the field.
- Analyzes geographic and statistical relationships among varying types of data to incorporate into sophisticated final map products and reports.
- Provides timely information in response to inquiries regarding WaterOne facilities to WaterOne personnel and the general public.
Other Duties
- Performs other job duties as assigned.
- Continual professional development and pursue certifications to further knowledge and skillset in GIS using the ESRI software package.

Required Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography with an emphasis in GIS, or Geographic Information Science and Technology or a Bachelor's degree in a related technical field with a Certificate or emphasis in GIS and two years of experience editing a mapping database using ArcGIS software.
- Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system and MS SharePoint
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Good analytical, cartographic mapping, spatial analysis, and problem-solving skills with great attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret plan and profile drawings and regional cadastral specifications, including legal descriptions.
- Knowledge of the following technology systems: ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Enterprise and/or ArcGIS Online, AutoCAD and GPS data collection using high-precision “survey-grade” GPS equipment.
- Ability to work on multiple projects/tasks concurrently.
- Proficiency or ability to become proficient in the use of SAP, GIS, AutoCAD, and M365 Suite of Productivity and Collaboration tools, including SharePoint.
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with all WaterOne personnel and customers and be teamwork oriented.
- Maintain a cooperative attitude and exhibit diplomacy and judgment when working with WaterOne personnel, contractors, developers, and/or the public.
- Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to be a good listener.
- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening and background verification in accordance with WaterOne standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Utility GIS mapping experience.
- Experience working with ArcGIS Enterprise in a cloud environment.

Employees in this position must be able to position themselves to move through elevators, stairways, ramps, and rough terrain, and must be able to move from one location to another. Use of personal protective equipment and navigate construction sites. Specific vision capabilities—such as close and distance vision, color differentiation, depth perception, and focus adjustment—are also required.

This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate except when in the field on a jobsite.
