Job Description
The Pharmacy Team Lead - Tech reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines, and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
Assists Practice Coordinator/Pharmacy Manager with operational aspects of the department. Staffs as well as coordinates work flow therefore must be flexible to fulfill the responsibilities, qualifications, license/certification, and education/experience of a Pharmacy Technician.
Responsibilities:
- Performs the duties of a Pharmacy Technician I, II, and Tech Specialist
- Assists with/coordinates pharmacy technician schedule, services, prioritizing assignments and workflow, and promoting situational decision making/problem solving
- Develops plans in collaboration with leadership team for workflow adjustments due to absences
- Serves as a liaison to other departments as needed
- Go-to resource/mentor/main communication for pharmacy technicians
- Responsible for supporting leadership regarding accreditation/regulatory compliance or at the direction of the Pharmacy Manager (or pharmacist), prepares and files reports and records required by the company and various government agencies
- Assists with implementation of pharmacy services and assures the pharmacy is clean, neat, orderly and stocked with adequate supplies
- Assists leadership in recruitment of technician personnel
- Conducts audits for workflow assignments, ensures tasks are completed on time with accuracy and holds others accountable for efficient workflow
- Works with Practice Coordinator/Manager to improve workflow design and find efficiencies
- Responsible for updating/creating workflows related to quality/process improvement, standardization of workflows such as: handouts, medications via manufacturer, changes to Patient Assistance program/requirements, documentation (quick reference tables, Patient Assistance, insurance coverage, communication regarding Medicaid plans, etc.)
- Coordinates and effectively communicates with management, co-workers, customers, and other healthcare professionals regarding changes to workflows, updates, backorder, and new drug information when/where appropriate
- Active participant in meetings, conversations, presentations and committees. Leads department meetings as necessary
- Supports Pharmacy Manager with diversion monitoring and reports any concerns that would compromise the security of the pharmacy to the Pharmacy Manager
- Responsible for coordination of training or is the trainer related to staff education/development, meeting with trainers to review checklists, reviews expectations, and answers questions; check-ins with new-hires, and competency
- Reviews and/or updates policies and procedures where applicable
- Supports Pharmacy Manager with establishment and maintenance of dashboards, scorecards, metrics, and other operational reporting needs
- Staff education/clinical pearls within pharmacy and provider teams (i.e., sending memos to clinics and presenting at clinic meetings)
- Assists Pharmacy Manager in monitoring that all pharmacy and team member licensures, registrations and certifications are active and in good standing/compliant with all regulatory and legal requirements
- Under the supervision of a pharmacist, supervising pharmacy technicians within the guidelines of authorized company policies, laws, regulations and business ethics
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Required:
- CPhT Certified or PTCB equivalent must be registered or become registered with the State of Illinois as a Pharmacy Technician within 90 days of hire or meets department skill level for technicians prior to 1/1/2008 certification requirement
- High School diploma or GED equivalent
- 2-3 years’ technician experience in a hospital or out-patient setting
- Excellent critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision
Preferred:
- Home Infusion – CSPT
- Specialty/NMPN – Advanced certification highly recommended (i.e., MTM, Billing Reimbursement) from an accredited program (i.e. PTCB)
- IDS – at least 1 year of IDS Technician experience
- IDS/OR – at least 1 year of Technician Specialist (or similar) experience
- OR – preferred 2 years OR Technician experience
