The Opportunity
This Sr. Software Engineer role works out of our San Diego, CA location on site in the Infectious Diseases Division of Abbott Rapid Diagnostics. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.
What you will do:
Leads and is accountable for the engineering design and implementation for one or more software features in the System.
Leads design and development of software code, unit tests, and integration tests for a feature of a subsystem.
Leads medium sized or multiple medium-projects.
Defines code-level application programming interfaces and strategies for unit testing, integration testing and performance testing for one or more features.
Serves as the technical subject matter expert for one or more features, identifying process issues and recommending corrective measures.
Defines feature evolution, branching, integration and deployment strategy. Defines structure of the source code files for one or more features. Ensures successful integration of one or more features in the continuous integration environment.
Reviews testing strategy and test protocols for one or more features. Implements hardware/interface simulation for one or more features.
Develops High Level Design for entire software application, which includes ability to assign capabilities to components, negotiate interactions between components, and identify and resolve component interaction issues. Review at the feature level.
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's Degree with a 10+ years of related experience or Bachelor's Degree with 6+ years of related experience or Master's Degree with 4+ years of related experience.
Advanced experience in designing and developing complex software systems.
Ability to provide guidance to junior team members.
Advanced knowledge in modern programming languages such as C/C++/C# or Python & Agile methodologies.
Advanced level of understanding of test-driven methodologies.
Advanced level of knowledge with continuous integration & continuous development (CI/CD).
Demonstrated success in technical proficiency, creativity, and independent thought.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to develop & design at the component-level.
Advanced level understanding of design patterns.
Strong analytical & problem-solving skills.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Strong problem-solving skills and a passion for staying updated with the latest industry trends.
Medical device product development knowledge a plus
Scrum master experience in an Agile environment.
Experience with issue tracking software such as Jira.
Experience with visual modeling, multi-threading, formal software development methodologies, and source code management
Ability to independently learn/explore existing system functionality.
Experience with cross platform programming languages like React is a plus.
Intermediate to moderate understanding of Linux Operating system.
