The Opportunity
As a Senior Procurement Specialist – Plastics, you will play a critical role in driving Abbott’s Global Procurement Plastics category strategy across global operations. This position focuses on procurement execution, supplier negotiations, and contract management while leveraging advanced technologies—including AI and digital tools—to improve sustainability and efficiency. You will work cross-functionally to align procurement activities with business objectives, regulatory requirements, and innovation initiatives.
What You’ll Work On
Execute the plastics category strategy across North America and global sites.
Lead supplier identification, evaluation, and selection processes.
Research and assess business requirements and suppliers; assist with supplier identification and selection.
Drive value and cost savings for plastics subcategories and supply chain.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless procurement operations.
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
Manage competitive bidding events (RFIs, RFPs) and lead fact-based negotiations.
Utilize AI-driven tools and digital platforms to:
Enhance sourcing efficiency and supplier performance tracking.
Support predictive analytics for cost modeling and risk mitigation.
Automate routine procurement tasks to improve cycle times.
Identify and implement technologies that support sustainable procurement practices.
Collaborate with internal teams to pilot and scale innovative solutions aligned with Abbott’s sustainability goals.
Support development and completion of contracts, statements of work, and standard operating procedures.
Manage supplier performance and continuous improvement initiatives.
Drive multiple procurement projects through complex sourcing processes.
Develop and maintain deep category knowledge and market intelligence.
Provide data analysis for sourcing decisions and supplier performance.
Assist in financial planning, LBE projections, and cash flow improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, Finance, or related field.
3–5 years of experience in procurement or supply chain, preferably in plastics or packaging.
Strong skills in supplier negotiations, contracting, and relationship management.
Experience with AI tools, digital procurement platforms, and sustainability initiatives.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, SAP, Access, and data analytics tools.
Ability to travel up to 15%.
Preferred Qualifications
Certification from ISM or APICS.
Lean/Six Sigma experience.
Project management experience; PMP certification or training is a plus.
