Job Description
The Mammography Technologist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Provides mammography and DEXA imaging and patient care services at defined levels to patients.
Sign-On Bonus:
- We are extending a $5,000 sign-on bonus to full-time external Mammography Technologists hired at Northwestern Memorial Hospital! This bonus is payable in one installment following the new employee's start date and has 12-month repayment terms associated.
Responsibilities:
- Maintains accountability for patient safety throughout the imaging process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post-procedure care.
- Produces diagnostic-quality images using approved protocols and professional standards.
- Apply professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
- Reviews images prior to exam completion and initiates corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.
- Administers contrast in accordance with policy, including screening for contraindications and patient monitoring (as applicable).
- Operates imaging equipment and maintains imaging room readiness.
- Identifies equipment performance issues and initiates follow-up through established service processes.
- Coordinates exam flow and prioritizes time-sensitive studies.
- Maintains accurate and timely documentation in medical record and image archive system, including exam set-up, image routing, result availability and charging accuracy.
- Adheres to organizational values, ethical standards, and compliance requirements.
- Consistently upholds all applicable quality and safety standards within diagnostic imaging, such as radiation safety, MRI safety, Infection prevention measures safe practices (as applicable to the role) to protect self, patients, visitors and team members
- Ensures a positive patient experience throughout care delivery
- Supports department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, growth
- Supports additional responsibilities aligned with patient care and department needs
- Performs breast screening exams, diagnostic mammograms and bone density (Dexa) scans, as needed.
- Produces images that meet ACR image quality critique standards
- Supplies patient with relevant patient education materials
- Verifies correct order for exam scheduled and aligns with previous recommendation prior to all exams.
- Communicates with patient before procedure to obtain history, explain risks and what can be expected; communicates during the exam to monitor safety, and comfort.
- Prepares images and compiles study for radiologist relaying all appropriate information.
- Performs mammography quality control procedures; maintains records.
- Assist with patient positioning, lifting, and transport to and from imaging areas as needed
- Supports department with regulatory inspections and accreditations, as needed
- May participate in training and onboarding of new team members

Qualifications
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program
- American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Mammography (M)
- Illinois Emergency Management Agency (IEMA) Accreditation
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
Preferred:
- One year of Mammography Technologist experience
