Job Description

Responsibilities:
- Provides leadership and planning within area(s) of responsibility while focusing on quality initiatives.
- Collaborates with the department director to develop goals and objectives for area(s) of responsibility which are aligned with the foundation strategic plan and/or organizational goals.
- Manages customer relations within area(s) of responsibility, including the appearance of the department and the manner in which staff communicate with patients, families, physicians, volunteers and other employees.
- Ensures departmental compliance with regulations, statutes and other applicable laws regarding operation and record retention.
- Promotes positive employee relations through staff development, coaching and feedback regarding work performance.
- Facilitates growth and development of staff, including opportunities to learn new skills and advance both personally and professionally; ensures staff completion of required competencies and review of key policies and procedures.
- Monitors, evaluates and counsels departmental personnel regarding their performance on a consistent and regular basis between formal performance evaluations; prepares and maintains adequate documentation to support any progressive corrective action.
- Monitors and manages the financial operation of area(s) of responsibility.
- Collaborates with the department director in the preparation of operating and capital budgets designed to meet individual, departmental and organizational strategies and goals; recommends and implements new initiatives and improvements to existing programs.
- Ensures that payroll and accounts payable invoices are reviewed, approved, coded and processed on a timely basis.
- Ensures that all employees utilize appropriate safety precautions in accordance with departmental policies and governmental standards.
- Oversees staff scheduling to ensure the needs of the department are met; maintains attendance records.
- Interviews and hires new staff.
- Conducts orientation and training of new and existing staff; monitors the orientation of staff and identifies further instructional needs.
- Coordinates work with outside services and contractors, other departments and customers.
- Supports quality improvement programs for the department.
- Ensures staffing levels which meet department guidelines: ensures optimal department coverage and minimal overtime.
- Monitors utilization of supplies and equipment for optimal efficiency and cost containment.
- Reviews, revises and enforces policies and procedures.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Three to five years of related work experience
Preferred:
- Working experience in a hospital setting
