As a Hardware Development Engineer, you will design, build, and validate the electronic systems inside our robot platform, spanning everything from compute to power distribution and peripheral interfaces. You will collaborate closely with firmware engineers, mechanical designers, and manufacturing partners to take board designs from concept through production. The ideal candidate is hands-on, comfortable owning a board end-to-end, has a track record of successful board spins and thrives in a fast-paced environment where hardware decisions directly impact robot capability and safety.
Key job responsibilities
As a Hardware Development Engineer, you will work cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, mechanical, and manufacturing engineers to design and deliver the PCBAs that power our robotic platform. We are looking for engineers who are passionate about hands-on board design and thrive owning hardware from schematic through production.
- Lead electrical design for PCBAs across the robotic platform - including schematic capture, component selection, architecture, and design considerations for signal integrity, manufacturability, testability, and cost
- Develop and review PCB layouts for multi-layer boards with high-speed digital interfaces (PCIe, USB, MIPI, Ethernet, EtherCAT), ensuring impedance control, power integrity, and EMC compliance
- Design power distribution systems including DC-DC converters, LDOs, power sequencing, load switches, and protection circuits for a multi-voltage robotic system
- Develop, execute, and automate electrical test plans - including board bring-up, functional verification, and production test strategy (boundary scan, ICT, functional test)
- Conduct troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implement design modifications throughout the product lifecycle - including prototype debug, failure analysis, and manufacturing yield improvement
- Partner with firmware engineers on hardware-software co-development, peripheral interface definition, and board support package bring-up
- Manage relationships with external vendors, PCB fabricators, and contract manufacturers including DFM review, stack-up optimization, and production support
- Maintain design documentation including schematics, BOMs, design rationale, test reports, and engineering change orders
About the team
Fauna Robotics, an Amazon company, is building capable, safe, and genuinely delightful robots for everyday life. Our goal is simple: make robots people actually want to live and interact with in everyday human spaces.
We believe that future won’t arrive until building for robotics becomes far more accessible. Today, too much effort is spent reinventing the fundamentals. We’re changing that by developing tightly integrated hardware and software systems that make it faster, safer, and more intuitive to create real-world robotic products.
Our work spans the full stack: mechanical design, control systems, dynamic modeling, and intelligent software. The focus is not just functionality, but experience. We’re building robots that feel responsive, expressive, and genuinely useful.
At Fauna, you’ll work at the frontier of this space, helping define how robots move, manipulate, and interact with people in natural environments. It’s an opportunity to solve hard problems across hardware and software with a team focused on making robotics accessible and joyful to build.
If you care about making robotics real for everyone and building systems that are as delightful as they are capable, we’re interested in hearing from you.
