The Senior Program Manager, Dangerous Goods (DG) Regulatory Engagement is a subject matter expert (SME) responsible for developing regulatory compliance and training programs and planning, coordinating and engaging with regulatory bodies and industry to seek special authorizations and lead regulatory development efforts for the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) program. This role leverages partnerships WW (world-wide) to improve, enhance, and innovate DG transport and storage through the use of technology and data, using safety as the key driver to reduce the risk.
Key job responsibilities
- Work with the WW DG Regulatory Engagement Senior Manager, other DG and Storage SME’s, and Leadership to assist in the development and update of an annual engagement strategy, including implementation of strategic initiatives as it relates to the LEO program
- Achieve DG Regulatory Compliance through identifying and developing solutions required for WW storage and transport of all LEO raw material and finished goods
- Develop LEO operational specific training and policy inclusive of the DG classification, packaging, marking and labeling, and documentation for storage and transportation
- Develop and obtain national authorizations, to facilitate the storage and movement of satellites and related parts globally, by working with designated national competent authorities
- Develop and advance regulatory proposals to streamline the WW storage and movement of LEO raw materials and finished goods; this includes creating opportunities to collaborate with regulators and industry to develop new or revise existing regulatory frameworks
- Maintain relationships with key regulators involved with the oversight of satellite operations; maintain knowledge of satellite related work within the international DG regulatory bodies of: UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe), US DOT / PHMSA (US Department of Transportation / Pipeline & Hazardous Materials Safety Administration), FAA (Federal Aviation Administration), ADR (Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road), ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) & IMO (International Maritime Organization)
- Develop process improvements and assisting in implementing mechanisms at scale to monitor and reduce risk within the LEO program
- Collaboration to find issue resolution(s) using automation/tech to enable compliance throughout the LEO program
- Developing or conduct audits on DG policy and compliance across LEO operations
A day in the life
This role works cross-functional within an international environment to transform LEO program processes through the use of continuous improvement and lessons learned to advance DG safety and compliance. Working in close coordination with the DG Regulatory Engagement, DG Ops, and Amazon Classification teams, this role will assist in gaining additional operational efficiencies, including supporting business expansion/growth, through regulatory and strategic engagement with each of the regulatory bodies who oversee LEO Operations.
