The AWS Hardware Supply Chain Security (HSCS) organization is looking for a Hardware Security Operations Manager who has a passion for security and the curiosity to analyze and report conclusions on the integrity of AWS hardware at any stage in its life cycle. You will lead a team of hardware security engineers and work alongside them, both doing the technical work and growing the people who do it. You will partner with professionals around the world to help assess and mitigate risks in partner manufacturing and logistics, contribute to new mechanisms for defense and response, and analyze the ever-shifting threat landscape to help us prioritize continuous improvement. You will have the opportunity to build and lead a team in a supportive, collaborative environment while helping secure the future of the cloud.
The HSCS organization exists to set the bar for AWS hardware life cycle security from design through end of life and drives durable mechanisms to meet requirements. If you have experience in areas such as modern semiconductor manufacturing and test, hardware/firmware analysis, or supply chain security, and you enjoy developing others, your expertise is needed more than ever and we are interested in talking to you.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with experience diagnosing and troubleshooting electronics PCB assemblies, including proficiency with test equipment such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, X-ray systems, shredders, and decap tools. They will demonstrate strong analytical judgment in interpreting test results and applying findings, supported by a solid understanding of hardware security fundamentals. They will have experience leading engineers or technicians, setting priorities for a team, and holding a high bar for the quality of technical work.
Key job responsibilities
Lead, hire, and develop a team of hardware security engineers, including setting goals, giving regular feedback, and managing performance
Plan and prioritize team workload across projects, balancing customer commitments, operational needs, and long-term capability building
Perform hands-on testing, automation, root cause analysis, and engineering artifact generation alongside the team
Own the development and review of SOPs for operation, equipment, testing, and analysis, and make sure the team follows them consistently
Review and approve engineering reports with the internal team and internal customers before publishing
Serve as the primary point of contact for internal customers and partner teams on the team's work, escalations, and results
Define and track operational metrics for the team and report status and risks to leadership
Drive a security mindset and provide guidance across all functions and operations
Own audits and reviews of operational activities (for example cycle counts, physical security, and inventory management) and drive corrective actions to closure
Manage lab equipment, assets, and resources, including identifying capability gaps and proposing investments
Lead continuous improvement efforts that increase the automation and efficiency of operations
A day in the life
In this role you will lead a team that assesses risks to AWS infrastructure by validating hardware security controls through inspection and testing of devices across the whole lifecycle, from suppliers through decommissioning. You will split your time between leading the team and doing the work. On a given day you might review a test plan with an engineer, troubleshoot a board on the bench, walk an internal customer through findings, and meet one on one with a team member about their development. You will implement, refine, and execute testing plans that use both simple and advanced techniques, oversee their execution, direct revision and follow-on testing, and make sure the analysis and reporting meets the bar before it goes out. You will grow the team's capabilities to protect Amazon and its customers, working with security professionals across Amazon as well as supplier and data center operations teams to keep AWS infrastructure secure.
