Application deadline: Oct 19, 2026
A typical day centers on keeping the Food Safety Audits programs running smoothly and the 3P auditor relationship healthy and productive. The Program Manager II leads the Worldwide Grocery Stores retail food safety audit program, partnering with a third party audit vendor, food safety analysts, store leadership, and cross functional stakeholders to ensure compliance with FDA Food Code.
Key job responsibilities
The role requires a results-oriented, analytical, customer-service approach to manage the audit program, measure progress, and drive risk management and compliance outcomes.
•Manage the day-to-day execution of the Food Safety Audits programs, including the 3P Food Safety audit cycle — scheduling, coverage, standards alignment, and data integrity; works on one or more projects and may own a program.
•Own accountability to the 3P Food Safety Auditor’s KPI scorecard; monitor audit completion, on-time delivery, scoring consistency, and finding-closure metrics, and act to keep them on target.
•Manage the relationship with the 3P audit provider — align on audit standards and expectations, resolve data and scoring discrepancies, and hold the provider to KPI commitments.
•Analyze and trend large audit data sets from internal and external audits to identify emerging Food Safety risks, recurring violations, and improvement opportunities.
•Verify Food Safety policy and the FDA Food Code are correctly reflected in audit standards, checklists, and scoring criteria.
•Support Food Safety escalations arising from audits; track corrective and preventive actions to closure with Operations stakeholders.
•Optimize audit procedures, processes, and best practices to improve efficiency, data quality, and reporting cycle time.
•Anticipate near-term bottlenecks in the audit program; identify, track, and mitigate immediate issues and risks, escalating when appropriate.
•Write and publish audit performance and trend content for WWGS Business Reviews; convey findings and recommendations clearly to stakeholders.
•Collaborate with AMZ & WFM stakeholders to align audit processes with Food Safety policy and Operations needs.
•Stay informed of FDA Food Code updates, regulatory publications, and industry audit benchmarks, and apply them to the audit program.
•Begin to mentor peers and new team members on audit standards, data analysis, and the FDA Food Code.
•Make trade-offs across time, quality, and resources to deliver reliable audit outcomes; decide when to resolve independently versus escalate.
A day in the life
Day-to-day responsibilities include:
•Data governance of internal and third-party audits for stores across the US, Canada, and UK
•Data analysis to identify process gaps and resolution
•Maintaining relevant metrics for a food safety scorecard that measures each store's food safety performance
•Reviewing and resolving clarifications
•Monitor vendor performance through a KPI scorecard
•Ownership of food safety self-audit questions and data
•Creation and publishing of monthly and ad-hoc content for food safety culture (Food Safety Empowerment Teams)
