Do you want to help bring new technology to customers faster? We build the tools that let teams plan, launch, and expand AWS services for customers around the world.
We are looking for a Software Development Manager to lead a Seattle-based team of software engineers at the center of how we deliver products to customers. Your team owns the systems that turn a launch request into a coordinated, largely automated plan, removing the manual steps and hand-offs that slow delivery down.
In this role you will set your team's technical direction, grow the engineers who report to you, and work closely with product and program managers to turn customer needs into working software. You will care as much about how your team operates, its quality, culture, and pace, as about what it ships. If you like building systems that other builders depend on, and you want your work to shorten the time it takes to get new capabilities into customers' hands, this is a place to do it.
Key job responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and grow a team of software engineers, setting clear goals and technical direction.
- Own the design, delivery, and operation of services that automate launch and expansion workflows, and keep them reliable in production.
- Partner with product and program managers to translate customer needs into a prioritized roadmap your team can execute.
- Recruit, hire, and develop engineers, and give regular, actionable feedback that helps them grow.
- Identify and remove manual, repetitive work through automation and simpler designs, and report progress against delivery goals to your stakeholders.
A day in the life
You start the day checking the health of the services your team runs and clearing anything blocking your engineers. You spend focused time in design reviews, helping the team make sound technical trade-offs, and in one-on-ones supporting the people who report to you. You meet with product and program partners to align on what matters next and give them a clear read on timelines and risks. Throughout the day you look for coordination and manual effort you can automate away, so your team spends its time on work only they can do.
About the team
Our team builds the system that helps teams deliver AWS services and capabilities to customers across the world, as quickly and reliably as possible. We do the shared, behind-the-scenes work so individual service teams can focus on their own engineering rather than the mechanics of launching and expanding. We care about clean interfaces, automation over manual effort, and measuring ourselves by how much time we save the teams we serve. We are a collaborative group that values curiosity, thoughtful design, and helping each other grow.
