Heat Rate Engineer – Plant Miller
This position will be located at Alabama Power’s Plant Miller, Quinton AL
JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for supporting plant maintenance and operations as subject matter expert for Heat Rate Performance. Work will primarily be related to mechanical equipment, valves & piping, boilers, heat exchangers, and condensers. Candidate will take the lead on all equipment issue that may negatively affect units heat rate performance. Must be comfortable working in a Plant/industrial environment and capable of working proficiently both as part of a team and independently.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or other technical degree is required.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of professional and/or internship experience preferred.
- Chemical, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering degree strongly preferred.
- Power or industrial plant operations/maintenance experience, or specific maintenance experience is strongly desired.
- Possess a basic mechanical aptitude and have a good understanding of power plant systems
- Experience with mechanical drawings including P&ID’s, piping, vessel and general arrangement drawings.
- Working knowledge of common MS office applications.
The following skills are strongly preferred:
- General working knowledge of process equipment including boilers, piping, valves (manual/control/relief), pumps, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, fans.
- Understanding of condition-based maintenance technologies preferred
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Subject matter expert for Operations heat rate performance
- Facilitation of operating unit’s boiler tuning.
- Generation and review of technical specifications including equipment/material specifications.
- Evaluation of proposals for mechanical or electrical equipment.
- Excellent computer skills and effective written and verbal communication skills is a must
- Ability to appropriately prioritize, plan and manage multiple work activities simultaneously is required.
- Proficiency in problem solving, analytical, and interpersonal / communications skills.
- Make sound independent decisions with minimal information and consultation with management.
- Communicate with other groups and departments to achieve successful unit performance
- Assist in the checkout, testing and startup of systems when necessary.
- Must be available to work nights, weekends and/or holidays as needed.
- Must be able to be on-call for the plant for specified rotation frequencies, each occurrence being a week in length
