Assistant Project Manager – Technology, Fiber and Physical Security
Reports to: Project Management Supervisor
Location: 241 Ralph McGill, Atlanta, GA - GPC Corporate Office
This position will be filled as a Level 4-6 Exempt dependent upon the qualifications (skills, education and experience) of the successful candidate.
JOB SUMMARY
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) assigned to Technology, Fiber and Physical Security projects will be paired with the Technology & Fiber and Physical Security Project Managers to support with various aspects of project management to ensure successful project delivery, high standards of quality, and stakeholder satisfaction. This position will cover transmission lines and substation projects for the entire state of Georgia.
Job Requirements
Job Experience and Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred
- Engineering, Substation Integration & Automation, and Operations Support experience preferred.
- Transmission experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong organizational, time management and project management skills.
- Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and engage with others.
- Strong analytical & problem-solving skills to evaluate progress, identify problem areas, evaluate alternatives, and determine viable solutions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint); Able to create and manage schedules in Excel.
- Technical knowledge of Telecom and Energy Management Systems (EMS) / Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems in use for substations and transmission lines such as equipment, communication architectures, protocols and Operations Technology (OT) cyber security.
- Technical knowledge of substation and transmission line devices that produce/collect data or files needed to operate, maintain, or secure facilities.
- Understanding of North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) procedures.
- Understanding of Cyber and Physical Security initiatives.
- Experience with contract, material procurement and purchase order administration.
- Strong computer skills, with general knowledge of Transmission applications such as TEAMS, STOMP, TransView, LIMS, Spectrum EMS, MAXIMO, among others.
- Proven communication and negotiation skills (Verbal and Written)
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing deadline and demands.
- Understanding of the Georgia Integrated Transmission System (ITS) is a plus.

KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Project Support: Assist in the planning, coordination, and execution of transmission line and substation projects associated with Technology, Fiber and Physical Security, ensuring alignment with customer and business objectives.
- Documentation and Reporting: Prepare and maintain project documentation. Assist in the preparation of status reports and presentations for stakeholders.
- Coordination: Support the coordination of the design, engineering, procurement, construction, and closeout phases of project ensuring seamless integration and execution.
- Equipment Management: Monitor and track major equipment of all projects including material slotting, review, and readiness.
- Monitoring and Tracking : Identify and report potential issues to the Project Manager. Facilitate resolution of conflicts, resource issues, or schedule exceptions that may impact project completion dates.
- Change Management: Assist in managing project changes, ensuring all adjustments are effectively documented and communicated. Analyze project cost exceptions and assist with variance explanations.
- Stakeholder Management : Assist in developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to manage expectations, address concerns, and ensure a high level of satisfaction and collaboration.
- Organizational Duties: Assist and support project managers with managerial items that include but are not limited to scheduling and coordinating project meetings, note taking, and recording attendance.
- Post-Project Review: Support the Project Manager in conducting post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and share insights for continuous improvement.
- Risk Management: Help identify, assess, and manage project risks to minimize impact on project delivery and outcomes
