The Opportunity
This position works out of our Columbus, OH location in the Nutrition Division. In Research & Development, our ambition is providing innovative high-quality products, creating sustainable value, delivering superior user experience, and enhancing health outcomes at all stages of life.
Primary Function:
As an individual contributor, with guidance from manager/team, functions to support Medical Safety & Surveillance (MSS) by researching, assessing, and summarizing nutrition and medical information as well as safety issues concerning foods or products and by supporting innovation teams with safety related aspects and issues.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
- Participate in internal global food safety surveillance programs (ingredient and finished product) and utilize health-based guidance values (e.g., FDA, EFSA, JECFA, EPA, Codex, etc.) to conduct medical risk assessments for chemical contaminants.
- Research, organize, and assimilate nutrition, safety, and/or toxicology information to support medical safety assessments.
- Assist in the completion of Medical Safety related analyses, reports, and/or projects as assigned, e.g., ingredient and finished product assessments and/or medical safety assessments.
- Present Medical Safety related analyses, reports, and/or assessments orally and/or in writing to stakeholders within and outside of the department.
- Assist in the generation of medical justification content reviews/templates.
- Participate on select cross-functional innovation teams as Medical Safety and Surveillance representative.
- Other duties/projects/support as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related health or food science field (i.e., toxicology, food science, dietetics, human nutrition).
- 1-2 years industry experience.
- Ability to clearly communicate medical and scientific data orally and in writing.
Preferred
- Master’s degree or equivalent industry or research experience is preferred.
- Some toxicology/food safety education and/or application within industry desirable.
- Beginning understanding of products and their safety profiles.
- Familiarization of health-based guidance values (IOM, EFSA, JECFA, EPA, Codex, etc.) in terms of nutrients/toxicants.

The base pay for this position is $60,000.00 – $120,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
