Team Leader- Laboratory

This position is accountable for leading all activities associated with the plant's cycle chemistry program and related projects, optimization of plant cooling water systems, proper operation of pollution control equipment and related environmental sampling programs in support of plant environmental goals to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the generating plant. The Lab Team Leader will manage the overall performance and development of the laboratory team and will provide technical input on chemistry related issues to plant management concerning chemistry guidelines, procedures, tasks and best practices.
JOB REQUIREMENTS :
- BS/BA degree in Chemistry or other science degree with at least 25 quarter or 12 semester hours of chemistry, advanced science degree preferred
- Responsible for effective performance-management of his/her crew including providing training and development, setting goals, giving feedback, and coaching.
- In-depth working knowledge of power plant cycle chemistry and environmental regulations.
- In-depth working knowledge of boiler chemical cleaning procedures, planning and budgeting process, steam/water cycle design; cooling water systems, makeup water syst e ms, potable water systems, and waste treatment systems.
- In-depth knowledge of quality assurance and controls
- Must have good problem solving/analytical skills and be able to troubleshoot complex systems.
- Must have excellent communication and leadership skills
- Must have completed Lab Tech I and Lab Tech II courses

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Ensure the plant's cycle chemistry program meets or exceeds Playbook metric chemistry guidelines, provide the plant with a continuous supply of high quality makeup water, and optimize plant cooling water systems in support of plant business goals.
- Forecast and manage laboratory budget while reducing cost and maximizing laboratory contributions to plant goals
- Make appraisals and recommendations to minimize and or eliminate chemistry related EFOR events.
- Provide leadership, coordination & strategic planning for the laboratory team to ensure the safe, efficient and reliable operation of the generating plant.
- Provides effective performance-management of his/her team including providing training, setting goals, giving feedback, and coaching.
- Serve as plant subject matter expert to Operations, Maintenance and Power Generation Technical Field Services regarding cycle chemistry, and cooling water and associated equipment.
- Support the plant's Water Treatment System Owner and Engineer.
