Senior Transmission Accountant - Joint Ownership Accounting

JOB DESCRIPTION
The position is in the Integrated Transmission System Department (ITS), a part of the Georgia Power Company (GPC) Joint Ownership Accounting Organization.
The ITS accounting department ensures that the associated costs of using, operating and maintaining the system are shared fairly amongst the transmission owners in the state. This position is part of a collaborative team, executing the accounting and billing of the various ITS contracts and ensuring compliance with GAAP, SEC, FERC, and GPSC requirements. The position will also support the billing of certain jointly owned generating plants.
The position will be:
- filled at a level dependent on the skills and experience of the individual selected
- expected to perform detailed analytical and investigative work to ensure compliance with the ITS contracts, procedures, and agreements
- expected to improve the efficiency and accuracy of current processes
- hybrid, working both remotely and at the GPC Office in Atlanta
The person in this position will work directly with various departments within Georgia Power Accounting Finance and Treasury, GPC Transmission, and external ITS Owner personnel.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- ITS Parity – Transmission facility rental payments between ITS owners balancing system usage and ownership
- ITS Shareable Billing – ITS system O&M cost recovery
- ITS Spare Equipment Billing – carrying cost recovery, sales, and purchases of pooled assets
- ITS Asset Sales & Purchases between GPC and other ITS owners
- ITS Investment – Maintain ITS asset investment records
- ITS Investment Audits - Review the investment submissions of other ITS owners
- Budgeting & Forecasting
- Joint Owner Billing for Plants Hatch & Wansley
- Monthly meetings and communications with ITS owners and generating plant Co-Owners
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field is required
- Advanced degree in accounting or a related field is a plus
- CPA license (or equivalent) is a plus
Experience:
- Minimum of 5 years of utility accounting experience is required
- Experience with Oracle Financials is required
- Advanced excel capability preferred
- Accounting information systems experience is a plus
- PowerPlan property module experience is a plus
- Transmission experience is a plus
- Auditing experience is a plus
- Experience with the GA ITS or a regional transmission organization is a plus
- Experience with the open access transmission tariff is a plus
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:
- Knowledge of FERC System of Accounts and utility rate making concepts
- Comfortable making decisions and expressing opinions
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple assignments simultaneously and meet deadlines
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate meaningful information concisely
- Ability to communicate accounting concepts and analysis to non-financial employees
- Identifies problems and information gaps and produces meaningful information for decision-making
