AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.
You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.
We're looking for a passionate Software Development Engineer to drive the evolution of Route 53 Resolver DNS Firewall and Route 53 Profiles. This is a unique opportunity to own critical infrastructure that protects thousands of organizations worldwide from DNS-based threats while simplifying DNS management at scale. You'll design and build solutions that expand our global footprint, enhance our security capabilities, and create operational excellence for services that handle billions of DNS queries daily. If you're excited about solving complex distributed systems challenges, thrive in customer-obsessed environments, this role is for you.
Key job responsibilities
In this role you will -
Design, develop, and deploy scalable systems that enable global expansion of our DNS security and management services across AWS regions and availability zones.
Build and integrate AI, ML and generative AI models for DNS threat detection, supporting real-time identification of anomalous or malicious domain traffic patterns.
Lead the design and deployment of distributed systems for DNS security analytics and policy enforcement, balancing low latency with high throughput.
Collaborate with applied scientists to bring machine learning research into production systems with operational rigor.
Drive the development of configuration APIs, security features, and tools to manage DNS filtering policies and cross-account resource sharing.
Mentor and support junior engineers while establishing best practices for resilient, customer-focused systems.
Coordinate with product management and partner teams to prioritize features and deliver end-to-end customer value.
A day in the life
On a “typical” day you may -
Attend team reviews of service metrics and operational health or design reviews for a new feature.
Dive deep in code implementing a system to optimize deployment of the service infrastructure in a newly launched AWS region.
Collaborate with product managers to prioritize customer requests, or partner with support teams to investigate and resolve a complex customer issue. Lead a technical discussion with junior team members about optimizing a data pipeline for filtering DNS queries at scale.
Throughout the day, you'll balance immediate operational needs with long-term architectural improvements, all while keeping customer experience at the forefront of your decisions.
About the team
Our team own, develop and operate services created in response to customer demand for enhanced DNS security and centralized DNS management. Our team operates at the intersection of distributed systems, cloud security, and networking. In addition to owning high-scale, globally distributed infrastructure, we are advancing the state of DNS security through the development of ML and generative AI models. These models help detect sophisticated DNS threats. Our work directly safeguards mission-critical workloads for a wide range of AWS customers.
We have a strong engineering culture rooted in operational excellence, innovation, and customer obsession. Engineers on our team contribute to production-scale ML model development, participate in region builds, and help design scalable systems that defend against evolving threat vectors. Whether you’re building the next generation of intelligent detection pipelines or improving tooling for global DNS resolution, you’ll find a home with us.
Diverse Experiences
Amazon values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the preferred qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying.
