Renewable and Resilient Generation
JOB SUMMARY
This position is for a Compliance Specialist to support multiple Georgia Power’s Renewable and Resilient Generation (R2GEN) sites as well as Plant Mitchell Coal Combustion Residual (CCR) Project. This position will support compliance programs (NPDES, Safe Dams, surface and ground water withdrawal, HazCom. etc.) along with ash pond dewatering/CCR management and well monitoring activities. The successful candidate will maintain in-depth knowledge of current environmental and health laws and regulations as they apply to the various facilities and use that knowledge to ensure compliance with permits and regulations. They will interface with corporate and regulatory agencies and ensure appropriate notification for incidents of non-compliance. Recognize safety and environmental compliance issues that require attention and proactively address them. The successful candidate will model Our Values and lead by example as the champion of all safety and compliance initiatives.
The successful candidate will be responsible for environmental and CCR programs, Safe Dams programs, industrial hygiene programs as assigned, self-assessments, program audits, conducting compliance training, and acting as back-up to other compliance programs and team members. This position requires ability to respond to call outs on weekends, nights, and holidays. Will require travel around the state to support multiple sites.

- Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products is required.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Chemistry, or related field, or equivalent experience highly preferred.
- Knowledge of solar operations, distributed generation, Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and CCR management desired.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Hazardous Communication program is desired.
- In depth knowledge of compliance programs and environmental regulations (SPCC, NPDES, Construction Stormwater, Waste, EAP/ERP, Contract Administration, etc.) is desired.
- In-depth knowledge of power generation or similar industrial experience is desired.
- Demonstrated experience in Maximo or Enablon is a plus.
- Experience conducting Compliance self-assessments/self-audits is a plus.
- Current certifications such as Level 1A erosion/sedimentation inspector, Method 9 visual emissions, Safe Dams inspection training is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage projects, including interfacing with employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies is desirable.
- Demonstrated ability to work efficiently and effectively across organizations is a plus.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Demonstrate Safety as a Core Value in daily actions.
- Ensure compliance with all permits and regulations by monitoring various parameters and interfacing with site personnel and contractors.
- Develop, monitor and maintain documentation for programs like Erosion Control and Sedimentation, CCR, Pesticides and Herbicides, Wildlife and Natural Resources, and Georgia Safe Dams.
- Provide oversight for responsible sites water, CCR, Safe Dams, and industrial hygiene programs, and various compliance programs as assigned.
- Conduct CCR, landfill, and safe dams inspections as required
- Provide oversight and guidance for the Department in regards to Hazardous Communication.
- Conduct storm water monitoring and inspection of erosion/sedimentation BMPs as required.
- Develop and maintain compliance procedures.
- Investigate compliance related incidents and ensure notification of appropriate regulatory agencies, if required.
- Perform specific environmental sampling and analysis as required to ensure compliance.
- Deliver presentations to internal and external groups to inform them of various environmental and compliance issues including compliance training.
- Document and maintain records to verify compliance.
- Assist Compliance Team in the areas of water withdrawal, NPDES, storm water, air programs, waste programs, CCR, safe dams, industrial hygiene and compliance training.
- Ensure adherence to Southern Company’s record retention guidelines and storage processes.
- Support community outreach programs.
- Effective interpersonal skills required with ability to interact with others in a positive manner even during disagreeable situations with a focus on customer service.
- Must be a self-starter who demonstrates leadership and takes ownership in completing multiple work assignments with minimal supervision.
