What's the role?
We are looking for an experienced full stack engineer to join our established yet evolving team in Growth.
As a senior software engineer, you will be responsible for building and maintaining product features for enhancing the core buyer experience at Etsy, architecture, documentation and mentoring engineers.

We are a cross-functional product development team consisting of engineers, product managers, designers, product marketers, data analysts and user researchers. We collaborate closely and learn via data, user interviews, experimentation and iteration so that we can take a holistic approach to improving the buyer experience.
This is a full-time position reporting to the Engineering Manager in Growth. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.
For this role, we are considering candidates based in the United States. Candidates living within commutable distance of Etsy’s Brooklyn Office Hub, or in the San Francisco Bay Area, may be the first to be considered. For candidates within commutable distance, Etsy requires in-office attendance once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. As part of the Growth group, Loyalty Web team is responsible for maintaining and improving the Loyalty program for buyers on Etsy.com.
We are a true product engineering team, focused on building delightful experiences for people buying on Etsy.
You will work directly with Design, Product, and Engineering across product and enablement teams and collaborate with sister native app teams. Your work will have a multiplier effect, touching all of Etsy’s product teams as well as every piece of the customer journey.

What does the day-to-day look like?
Be responsible for the design, development and implementation of highly maintainable and scalable systems by contributing at all levels of our web application stack
Collaborate with teammates to independently tackle well-scoped problems, regularly deliver work to end users and be a primary contributor to team’s goals
Provide daily support for peers across Etsy (ex. Writing documentation, reviewing pull requests, answering Slack questions)
Identify and propose tracks of work that reduce tech debt and move our product forward
Serve as an advocate for engineering best practices and contribute to the engineering vision
Be a mentor and guide to fellow engineers

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:
You have 5+ years of proven web development experience and are excited to grow along with the team
You have expertise building customer-facing web applications, using both back-end technologies (we use PHP, MySQL, Memcache) and front-end frameworks (TypeScript, React, SCSS)
Thrive when faced with customer and product-focused challenges, using experimentation, and both quantitative and qualitative methods, to drive decision-making
Strength in frequent collaboration and communication within a cross-functional product team
Successful track record of scoping, roadmapping, and leading projects to completion, with a passion for mentoring and coaching other engineers in a compassionate manner
A growth mindset, with an appreciation for receiving feedback and embracing unexpected outcomes as learning opportunities
Desire to understand the “why” behind what we are doing
You have a “leave it better than you found it” mentality, and are comfortable working with and improving on code you did not originally write.
