GPC Principal Engineer – Distribution Policy & Planning
Reports to: Brenden Love, Distribution Standards Manager
Location: 241 Ralph McGill, Atlanta, GA (GPC Corporate Headquarters)
NOTE: You must be reasonably located near the Metro Atlanta area or be willing to quickly relocate. Relocation assistance is available if needed.

JOB SUMMARY:
The primary focus of the position is monitoring the power quality health of the power delivery system. Position is responsible as SME for multiple aspects of power quality regarding the power delivery system, distribution energy resources, and the power quality issues that impact customers served by the power delivery system. Expertise includes analysis of system performance events and issues, harmonics, flicker, motor starting, and stray voltage (NEV). Individual provides specialized engineering analysis and support to other engineers regarding responding to system level power quality issues. Individual assists other departments as necessary in evaluation of large load projects to assess power quality impacts on the power delivery system and assist in determining the method of service. Individual will represent GPC on committees such as Southern Company wide Power Quality, ITS, and various industry committees. Individual will collaborate with industry participants and equipment suppliers regarding supporting Standards and Reliability processes. Individual will develop processes and bulletins related to Power Quality. Individual will help in teaching engineering training classes at Klondike. Individual will perform SERP duties as assigned.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work with all Power Delivery areas, other departments and opco’s to develop innovative and cost-effective solutions for PQ issues to new and existing distribution customers, while maintaining the reliability of the distribution system
- Aid the area engineering personnel and Distribution Planners in performing voltage drop, flicker, harmonics, motor start, and other technical studies.
- Help develop innovative and cost-effective solutions for resolving problems
- Proactively build and maintain partnerships with personnel in Transmission, Metering, Distribution Automation, Reliability, SCS, SCM, Renewables, and other organizations
- Train, teach, and develop engineering personnel
- Provide support for other activities and projects assigned.
- Serve as representative on various company wide and industry wide committees
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education / Certification Requirements:
- 4-year Accredited Bachelor of Science Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology Degree and Professional Electrical Engineer's License required
- Advanced degree preferred
Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years Distribution or related experience is required. Field Engineering and Operating experience is preferred
- Technical knowledge in Distribution Reliability, P&C, Distribution Planning, EPQ is preferred
- Experience using PQView or equivalent, is a plus.

- Proven knowledge of the Distribution systems, policies and procedures.
- Recognized for technical competency and understanding of customer service needs; familiar with Section 0, Distribution Bulletins
- Excellent analytical and technical problem-solving skills
- Communicate well through written reports, well organized presentations, and oral discussions
- Interacting with internal and external customers on technical and political issues
- Effective negotiator with customers along with internal and external stakeholders; able to articulate and maintain GPC positions in difficult conversations
- Ability to deal with heavy workloads, multiple tasks, and conflicting demands
