Safety and Health Coordinator – Renewable Energy
Southern Power and its subsidiaries, some of which are owned in part with various partners, own or operate 55 facilities operating or under development in 15 states with more than 13,150 MW of generating capacity in Alabama, California, Delaware, Georgia, Kansas, Maine, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, West Virginia and Wyoming.
Fuel mix includes natural gas, solar, wind, fuel cell, and battery storage.
This position serves as a technical and regulatory safety and health resource to assist in leading a dynamic and energetic safety culture for Southern Power. This position will be located at any of our facilities in Texas.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Degree or certification in safety, health, industrial hygiene or a related field highly preferred.
- A minimum of three years of experience working in a safety related position required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of current safety and health laws and regulations as they apply to electric utilities is required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable OSHA regulations.
- Experience in an electric generating facility is desired.
- Experience working with regulatory agencies desired.
- Experience with Lock Out Tag Out procedures in an electric generating facility desired.
- Strong leadership skills with the desire to work in a team environment.
- Excellent presentation skills.
- Proficient computer skills in Power Point, Excel and Word.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal).
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide safety oversight and guidance for Employees and O&M contractors at Southern Power sites.
- Work with Project Management to ensure safe work practices and programs are being implemented and followed by EPC contractors at Southern Power construction sites.
- Maintain good working relationships with internal and external team members at all SPC Renewable locations to ensure high safety expectations and results.
- Provide support for Southern Power’s Lock Out Tag Out program at Renewable sites
- Conduct annual Lock Out Tag Out training and proficiency assessments for Renewable sites.
- Ensures safety continuity as construction projects transition to fully operational sites.
- Assists with program updates, and compliance.
- Ensures notification of the appropriate departments and agency(ies) in cases of noncompliance.
- Promotes safe work practices and safety consciousness among employees to prevent employee harm.
- Coordinate, facilitate and monitor the Southern Power safety program and safety initiatives.
- Develop programs and processes to minimize hazards in the workplace.
- Recognizes safety and health issues that require attention and addresses them accordingly.
- Interfaces with other Southern Company safety and health and industrial hygiene personnel.
- Assist in the development, coordination and implementation of Southern Power’s safety, health and wellness programs.
- Assist with audits/assessments at Southern Power’s Renewable Fleet.
- Provide effective compliance training in applicable areas.
- Identifies safety training needs, procedural updates, and assist in investigations of safety related events.
- Assist with SPC wellness program management.
