Job Summary:
The purpose of this position is to facilitate and progress the on-boarding of new residential, commercial, and industrial customers to the utility’s distribution system and to manage the addition of incremental load to the existing customer base system in the most efficient manner possible. The incumbent in this role initiates and maintains relationships with various internal departments and will utilize rigorous project management and technical research skills to create and administer New Business designs in a timely manner as well as optimize designs such that they are both cost effective and fulfill the terms of corporate policies and standards.
Functional Expertise:
- Initiates new business projects within SCG’s corporate application for tracking new projects (ARM system)
- Responds to inquiries concerning natural gas availability from potential customers
- Evaluates and documents required project, general contractor, and applicant information for new customer additions or added load projects
- Progresses projects with applicants by obtaining and processing essential project information such as plats, site plans, load and pressure requirements, etc. and updates SCG’s corporate application for tracking new projects (ARM system)
- Advises internal departments of constructability issues during the application process
- Recognizes potential job site efficiencies and incorporates into gas main design
- Designs gas mains within SCG’s Geographic Information System (GIS) that will be required to serve the project. Sets up building points in SCG’s GIS system and submits to Mapping
- Generates budgets for new business projects and runs feasibility models inherent to SCG’s project tracking system (ARM system)
- Obtains authorization to spend capital dollars for the new project
- Creates main work units or work orders from the approved design that will be used to distribute work within a centralized scheduling system
- Advances and executes contracts with customers and payments expeditiously
Business Acumen:
- Formulates the most efficient routing of new gas mains and services to serve new residential, commercial, and industrial development
- Recognizes job site opportunities and proposes alternative gas main and service designs for system reliability and cost effectiveness
Engagement:
- Initiates and maintains long-standing relationships with internal departments
- Consults with engineering, construction, and operations resources on constructability and meter set issues for new projects
Driving Results:
- Expedites project design and financial approvals for gas construction projects
- Prioritizes and manages multiple projects simultaneously to optimize overall customer demand portfolio
Qualifications
Education, Certifications/Licenses and Related Work Experience:
Required:
• Valid Driver’s License
• BA/BS degree
OR
• 3+ years of gas utility experience
Preferred: Past experience working with Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
Specific Skills & Knowledge:
Required : MS Excel and Word proficiency
Preferred: Experience with SCG’s systems including SCG Work Management, GIS, and Project Costing (Accounting) systems
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
The incumbent works in an office environment with occasional trips to the field. This position occasionally requires walking of construction sites and could require the individual to bend, kneel, or crouch from time to time.
