New hires may earn a salary ranging from the minimum to the midpoint of the pay scale, with education and experience taken into consideration.

The Vice President of Resource Development is responsible for leading the Resource Development (RD) department to meet the organization’s development, communications, and external affairs objectives. The position provides strategic oversight and direction to all resource development activities including development (fundraising, volunteerism, corporate and community partnerships), communications (PR, brand management, internal communications) and external affairs (policy, advocacy, external engagement); with the goal of raising funds for and visibility of Plymouth’s mission. As a member of Plymouth’s Executive Leadership Team, helps shape Plymouth’s external image and brand identity and works directly with the Board of Trustees and Chief Executive Officer to create a strong community base of support. Manages three departments with direct reports.
Plymouth Housing is a nonprofit organization that develops and operates permanent supportive housing for single adults who have experienced chronic homelessness. With apartment buildings throughout King County, Plymouth is helping the most vulnerable members of our community leave homelessness behind forever. At Plymouth, we’re not simply trying to get people off the streets. We provide supportive services like case management and health care so that our residents can thrive long-term. WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TO BE DOING IN THIS ROLE AT PLYMOUTH HOUSING
Development Leadership
- Lead a comprehensive fundraising strategy to grow private revenue streams ($8M+ annually).
- Oversee major donor cultivation, corporate partnerships, private grants, and special events.
- Develop annual, endowment, workplace, planned, and individual giving programs.
Communications Leadership
- Oversee Plymouth’s external communications, including brand promotion and public relations.
- Increase visibility through media engagement, press tours, and speaking opportunities.
- Manage internal communications to ensure transparency and inclusivity.
External Affairs Leadership
- Direct advocacy, public policy, and community engagement initiatives.
- Set strategy for Permanent Supportive Housing and housing equity policymaking.
- Strengthen relationships with government leaders, nonprofit partners, and community stakeholders.
Organizational Leadership & Management
- Serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and collaborate on agency-wide strategies.
- Manage a high-performing team of five direct reports across development, communications, and external affairs.
- Oversee department budget, Salesforce fundraising software, and financial reconciliation processes.
SOME KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ATTRIBUTES WE NEED FROM YOU
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with experience working across diverse communities.
- Strong professional writing, editing, and grammar skills.
- Large-scale event planning experience and donor stewardship expertise.
- Ability to navigate fundraising trends and implement inclusive and accessible donor engagement strategies.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint, PowerPoint).
- Familiarity with fundraising software; Salesforce experience is a plus.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Business Administration, Marketing, or related field or an equal combination of education and relevant work experience.
- Minimum of seven years’ experience in resource development at similarly sized organization.
- Experience developing and overseeing budgets, major gifts fundraising, communications, branding/PR programs, external engagement, and partnership programs.
- Experience working directly with senior management, community leaders, board members, and government officials.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and sustain successful relationships with major donors, foundation executives, and corporate executives.
- Experience in managing a high-performing team.
- Successful grant/proposal writing experience.
- Familiarity with industry ethics and standard gift recording and acknowledgement processes.
- Experience with Salesforce (mentioned as a plus).
