About the Position:
We are seeking a skilled Junior Developer/UX Engineer to join our team and shape the front end of our digital products with a focus on exceptional user experiences. You will collaborate across teams to create engaging and user-friendly interfaces for landing pages, email campaigns, interstitials, modals, and more. Your role will bridge design and development, ensuring a seamless experience for our users while supporting business goals. The job will require an appreciation for human computer interaction -- how page layout, information hierarchy, forms, and buttons all work together to create experiences that users find easy to navigate and pleasant to use. The candidate may work with both engineering teams or design teams, as well as marketing teams and events teams.
Primary Job Functions:
- Defining and Scoping Development/UX Projects: Partner with cross-functional teams (engineering, design, marketing, and events) to define requirements and scope for impactful user experiences across customer acquisition, checkout, onboarding, and retention workflows.
- Build and Maintain: Build and maintain responsive and transactional webpages for our eight editorial brands and their associated event websites.
- Deliver UX Excellence: Work closely with the UX Design Team to deliver designs with a deep appreciation for usability, user needs, and business objectives.
- Code Interactive Components: Develop, modify, and test responsive interstitials, modals, ribbons, and other interactive elements.
- Email Campaign Support: Create, modify, and test responsive emails and reusable email templates.
- Custom Landing Pages: Assist in building tailored landing pages for marketing campaigns to support email and traditional advertising efforts.
- 3rd-Party Integrations: Implement integrations with external tools to ensure functionality, tracking, and user analytics.
- Project Management: Maintain clear communication about project status, risks, and opportunities while ensuring alignment with client needs and deadlines.
- Quality Assurance: Conduct thorough testing to meet high standards and project requirements.
Required Qualifications:
- Technical Expertise: Proficiency in modern HTML, CSS, and JavaScript techniques, with experience in custom marketing executions.
- UX & Agile Knowledge: Solid understanding of UX principles and Agile methodologies to support collaborative and iterative workflows.
- Initiative and Ownership: Self-starter with the ability to take initiative, own projects, and deliver results with minimal supervision.
- Responsiveness: Strong ability to address inquiries and requests promptly and professionally.
- Detail-Oriented Problem Solver: Highly organized, detail-focused, and skilled in troubleshooting technical issues.
- Team Player: Internally motivated and capable of working effectively both independently and within team environments.
- Clear Communication: Exceptional communication skills to articulate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Additional Skills
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with WordPress content management system, including theme customization and plugin management
- Understanding of user tracking and analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics)
- Knowledge of email development, including HTML email best practices and responsive design for email templates.
- Experience with integrating and working with third-party APIs and services
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (e.g., WCAG) and an interest in inclusive design practices
- Familiarity with Agile project management tools such as JIRA, Monday, or similar
UX Design and Principles:
Strong grasp of UX/UI principles with an ability to translate user needs into intuitive interfaces.
- Experience with A/B testing and iterative design based on user feedback and analytics.
- Familiarity with design tools like Figma, Sketch, to collaborate with UX designers.
Soft Skills:
- Exceptional problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical challenges efficiently
- Organized and detail-oriented, with strong project management skills to handle multiple priorities
- Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to non-technical stakeholders and collaborate across diverse teams.

Nice to Haves:
- WordPress: Experience in customizing and developing WordPress themes and plugins to support dynamic, content-driven websites.
- PHP: Knowledge of PHP for back-end development and integration with front-end designs.
- Java: Familiarity with Java for building and maintaining robust, high-performance applications or microservices.
- SQL: Ability to write SQL queries for data retrieval and management.
- Web Application Frameworks: React & Angular.
- Google Tag Manager (GTM): Use GTM to deploy and manage various tracking tags for analytics and marketing
