Job Summary
This position reports to the Manager, Marketing Communications and Strategic Operations, and is responsible for building out internal & external corporate and marketing communications practices within the Mass Markets team and the SSE enterprise. The position collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure consistent messaging and brand integrity across the enterprise – to be “one voice” from the company.
Within this role, they will lead and manage:
- Internal & External Comms: Comms strategies focused on company, leadership, key marketing announcements, community, and strategic partnerships internally and externally. This includes crafting compelling messages, drafting press releases, and event coverage, as well as collaborating with the parent company Corporate Communications team to seed publications and drive increased brand awareness and perception.
- Social & Email Marketing: Oversee GNG’s social media and email marketing strategies, which include developing and managing messaging calendars, content creation, email operations, channel deployment, and optimizations.
- Crisis Management: Coordinate crisis management strategy and execution as needed
Major Job Responsibilities:
- Drafting communication plans and subsequent key messages and press releases. Support the development of the “voice” of the company
- Building out communication strategies across internal channels and external channels to ensure alignment across the enterprise (direct, social, email)
- Overseeing the development and execution of social media campaigns
- Overseeing the development and execution of email marketing campaigns and customer correspondence
- Marketing operations as they pertain to social and email platforms
- Support Community Relations and Executive Team
Functional Expertise:
Internal & External Comms
- Promote products and services through public relations initiatives
- Create and deliver press releases, media relations content, corporate newsletter content, social media content, and speaking proposals as needed.
- Identify, develop, and execute communications strategy for key media contacts and customer references
- Create company literature and other forms of communication to reinforce key company/leadership messages
- Inform employees, disseminate relevant information about organizational activities, and share strategies for efficacy when managing operations.
- Assists executive leadership in developing presentations, speeches, and other important corporate messages
- Collaborate with the Community Relations and Corp Comm teams to pitch stories featuring community partners or key initiatives
Social & Email Marketing:
- Create and implement a strategic social media plan aligned with overall marketing and community objectives, identifying target audiences and key platforms to utilize
- Generate engaging and relevant content including text, images, videos, and graphics tailored to each social media platform, maintaining brand consistency
- Oversees messaging calendar and publishing on various social media platforms
- Oversee email operations, maintain and organize email contacts, audience building and hygiene
- Create targeted email campaigns to promote products or services, and encourage customer loyalty
- Manage vendor relationship with ESP.
Business Acumen:
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and prioritize PR & social opportunities
- Deep understanding and awareness of key competitors in the market
- Tap into corporate and marketing strategies to create opportunities that reinforce company priorities
Engagement:
- Collaborate with leadership to develop employee communications around key initiatives
- Work cross-functionally to develop stories to showcase GNG’s impact/investment within the community and in key programs like GNGHub and GreenerLife
- Gain a broad understanding of key metrics within the org to create a shared language
Driving Results:
- Collaborate with data analytics teams to leverage data to make email marketing more targeted, effective, and personalized
- Track, evaluate and monitor reach and engagement of media, social, and email initiatives to achieve marketing, financial, and business goals
- Generate regular reports on social media and email campaign performance, providing insights and recommendations to stakeholders
Job Requirements
Education:
- Required: Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field
Experience:
Required:
- 8+ years of experience in public relations, including supervisory and comprehensive marketing experience
- 5+ years of proven and effective managerial skills
- 5+ years of social media management, content creation
- 5+ years of email and lifecycle marketing experience
- Proven leadership experience in managing a team of subject matter experts
- Proven success in executing internal & external communication efforts
Preferred:
- Channel-specific content creation
- Experience with developing joint comms plans with community partnerships
- CRM and data management systems
- Experience managing and ESP for email operations and deployments
- Expertise in social media management

- Storyteller: Proven success in creating compelling narratives across multiple mediums with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Superior ability to write in a journalistic style customary for corporate and external publications

- Lifecycle marketing: Experience creating and managing email campaigns to promote products or services and drive retention
- Social media management: Developing and executing a comprehensive social media strategy, creating engaging content, monitoring online conversations, analyzing data, building brand awareness, and achieving marketing goals, all while maintaining a consistent brand voice
- Cross-functional: Ability to coordinate input from various teams to present a coherent message. Organized with attention to detail
- Project management: Proven skills in managing multiple projects, setting priorities, and meeting deadlines
- Leadership: Proven experience in leading cross-functional teams and collaborating with executives and directors
- Email Operations: Understanding of ESP’s capabilities and date infrastructure to build targeted email campaigns. Implementing practices like segmentation, A/B testing, and email marketing automation
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements:
- This position requires up to 5% travel. Trips may require air travel and/or overnight stays away from home for one or more nights
- This position will work in a hybrid office environment and subject to change at any time for business needs with rotating nights and weekend shifts
