Maintenance Specialist - Boiler
Job Summary :
The primary responsibility of this position is to assist in plan, schedule, track, coordinate, and close out work on all four boilers and associated equipment for Boiler and related equipment at Plant Miller. Other responsibilities include planning of support activities for outage work, integration into the CPM activities such as scaffolding, insulation, LOTO, procedures, unit shutdown and start-up sequence. This position must maintain frequent, timely, and accurate communication with Team Leaders and Managers. This position will perform the following duties as well:
- Budgeting, Planning and Coordinating work during outages and routine maintenance.
- Monitoring boiler and associated equipment performance for efficiency and reliability utilizing OIS and other tools.
- Trouble shooting issues associated with Boilers and related equipment.
- Provide technical direction and maintenance expertise to Maintenance and Contract personnel.
- The development and installation of special plant improvement projects.
Education & Work Experience:
- High School diploma or GED required.
- A minimum of five (5) years of boiler inspection and/or boiler maintenance experience required.
- Coordination of contractors for various boiler related work scopes is preferred.
- Knowledge of large drum sub-critical designed boilers is desired.
- Experience implementing maintenance strategies and inspections on equipment is desired.
- Welding experience is desired.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Thorough understanding of B&W Boiler Systems to provide solutions to equipment problems that are cost effective and adequate to meet the intended needs.
- Ability to analyze critical situations; determine competent solutions with implementation in a safe and effective manner.
- Knowledge of Contract Administration and Southern Company's policies regarding contractors preferred.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of plant personnel, contractors, and vendors to achieve organizational objectives.
- Strong proficiency in computer applications, i.e., MS EXCEL, POWERPOINT, Maximo, and WORD.
- Ability to make decisions in a timely manner and demonstrate short/long term strategic planning skills.
- Knowledge of plant budget and accounting procedures preferred.
- Demonstrate a willingness to implement Best Practices.
- Ability to appropriately prioritize, plan and manage multiple work activities simultaneously is required.

Other Requirements
- Requires on-call duty and an ability to change work schedules on minimal notice. Must be able to work weekends, night shifts, and/or holidays as needed with the potential for extended hours.
- Ability to work in Confined Spaces and at heights.
- Minimal travel required. Some vendor shop visits, or training may be required.
