Amazon’s Stores Security organization is seeking a highly skilled and self-driven Principal Technical Writer to lead strategic communications and documentation across Stores Security. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced communicator to shape and own the technical narrative across a diverse set of stakeholders—from builders to senior executives—while elevating awareness, clarity, and understanding of complex security initiatives.
You will play a central role in delivering high-visibility written products that support organizational alignment, transparency, and innovation. The ideal candidate has a strong technical background, exceptional storytelling and writing skills, and thrives in fast-paced, ambiguity-rich environments. This is a high-bar, high-impact role, responsible for crafting communications that inform, inspire, and drive action.
Key job responsibilities
1. Strategic Communications & Executive Messaging
- You will be the voice of the Office of the CISO, turning complex technical efforts into clear, compelling, and consistent messages tailored to internal audiences ranging from technical teams to senior leadership.
2. Knowledge Management & Documentation Systems
- You will design and maintain structured, accessible documentation that supports security teams and their partners across Amazon, enabling rapid understanding and usability of Stores Security tools and services.
3. Engagement Programs & Org-Wide Storytelling
- You’ll help build organizational trust and transparency by designing internal engagement programs that humanize leadership and spotlight contributors.
4. Cross-Functional Enablement & Editorial Leadership
- You’ll serve as an embedded writing expert across Stores Security teams, raising the writing bar, mentoring others, and providing consultative support for key initiatives.
A day in the life
1. Strategic Communications & Executive Messaging
* Write and distribute the weekly “AI Friday” digest to the Stores Security org, highlighting innovation, trends, and practical applications of AI within security.
* Partner with the AmSec Comms team to author “AmSec News Articles” that showcase Stores Security innovations to the broader AmSec (Amazon Security) organization, spotlighting team accomplishments and tech breakthroughs.
* Create scalable templates and editorial standards for recurring communications across Stores Security where applicable.
2. Knowledge Management & Documentation Systems
* Overhaul and maintain the Stores Security team pages with content that is current, engaging, and actionable.
* Build and manage a centralized internal wiki and tool portfolio that demystifies security capabilities and processes for builder and partner teams.
* Work with engineers and product owners to translate technical tool documentation into human-readable content.
* Ensure all documentation systems are sustainable, searchable, and integrated into daily workflows.
3. Engagement Programs & Org-Wide Storytelling
* Launch and manage an “Ask Me Anything” (AMA) series for the Stores Security CISO and manage all other speaking requests and content
* Partner with BizOps, PR, Legal and internal events teams to ensure messaging consistency and alignment across all formats.
* Develop mechanisms to further celebrate wins and team accomplishments in regularly occurring messaging
4. Cross-Functional Enablement & Editorial Leadership
* Advise and coach teams across Foundational teams and StoresBSTs on communication best practices, tone, and storytelling for technical audiences.
* Partner with TPMs, engineers, and BizOps to identify and fill documentation gaps that hinder clarity or adoption from their customers
* Operate as a trusted peer to leadership, providing strategic input on message framing, delivery timing, and internal influence.
