Plant Project Engineer – APC Plant Greene County
This position will be located at APC Plant Greene County, located in Forkland, AL
JOB SUMMARY
The engineer in this role will oversee activities related to engineering at a power generation facility. Responsibilities include providing technical support to the plant, as well as developing long-term plans and budgets aimed at maintaining and enhancing equipment performance. The project engineer will manage capital and O&M projects by adhering to established procedures to propose design options and recommendations for system and equipment improvements. The candidate will demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and collaborate effectively with plant personnel, Southern Company Services (SCS), vendors, and various contractors to ensure the successful delivery of assigned projects.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Education
- B.S. in Engineering from an ABET accredited institution is required
- B.S. in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, or Chemical Engineering preferred, but willing to consider other engineering disciplines
- M.S. in Business or Engineering a plus
Experience
- Proven problem-solving experience.
- Ability to work with team members on maintenance and/or operation of the following types of equipment: pumps, motors, air/motor operated valves, manual valves, fans, condensers, boilers, and turbines.
- Demonstrated project management experience required
- Strong technical expertise and problem-solving abilities required
Job Responsibilities
- Provide outage/project management, project budget management, long term maintenance strategies and technical support to the plant
- Utilize business tools to develop and justify budgets, write work orders, purchase equipment and material, develop project schedules, and monitor equipment.
- Initiate, troubleshoot and review root cause analyses for system equipment failures.
- Develop 5 & 10-year capital budgets and justification for associated capital projects
- Monitor plant performance and make recommendations to improve heat rate.
- Work with Southern Company Services, OEM's and system owners at other plants to stay current of any upgrades or concerns that affect the plant and communicate these needs to plant management, corporate management, and peer groups.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong organizational, administrative, time management, project management, facilitation and analytical skills are required
- Knowledge and experience with personal computers and the ability to learn numerous software applications quickly
- Self-motivation and demonstrated initiative are crucial for this position
- Ability to interface with vendors and contractors while representing the best interests of Southern Company
- Ability to network and utilize subject matter experts at both the corporate level and regional level to support our plant systems
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities and requirements
- Flexible to work across primary position boundaries by willingly accepting multiple roles as required to support plant needs
Other Requirements
- Must be available to work nights, weekends and/or holidays as needed.
- May require some extended work hours.
- Must be able to be on-call for the plant for specified rotations
- Minimal Travel required – 15%
